Help Us Finish Our Film: Post-Production Needed

EL EQUIPO DE THESE DAYS:

Mi nombre es Junior González y soy un cineasta y documentalista centroamericano. Desde hace un par de años, mi equipo y yo hemos estado trabajando en esta película llamada These Days. Somos un equipo que resulta ser de una cultura salvadoreña. Todos nos unimos para este proyecto principalmente porque sentimos que la cultura centroamericana está subrepresentada en las películas. En nuestro viaje, hemos tenido éxito en el desarrollo de nuestra película que tiene una voz centroamericana. También hicimos un Concept Trailer, que nos permitió recaudar fondos para filmar nuestra historia y darle vida.

 

Ahora, pasamos a la siguiente fase de nuestro proyecto. Por lo tanto, creamos este GoFundMe para ayudar con la finalización de la película, ¡ya que finalmente estamos en la fase de postproducción!

THESE DAYS CREW:

My name is Junior González and I am a Central American film and documentary maker. For a couple of years now, my team and I have been working on this movie called These Days. We are a team that happens to be from a Salvadoran culture. We all came together for this project mainly because we feel that Central American culture is underrepresented in the movies. In our journey, we have been successful in developing a movie that has a Central American voice. We also made a Concept Trailer, which allowed us to raise funds to film our story and bring it to life.

 

Now, we move on to the next phase of our project. Therefore, we created this GoFundMe to help with the finalization of the film, as we are finally in the post-production phase.

SOBRE EL PROYECTO:

Esta es una historia sobre la mayoría de edad sobre Jay, un niño de catorce años que pinta un mural para ayudarlo a superar un verano turbulento. Jay definitivamente está tratando de comprender su camino en la vida, pero vive con una estricta madre soltera, Alma, que está esperando otro hijo. Ella no le expresa nada más que amor duro a Jay. Ella tiene a Jay en un programa juvenil de riesgo de verano, llamado STRONG para ayudarlo a no meterse en problemas. Sin un padre presente, la lucha por mantener una vida buena y estable se vuelve cada día más difícil para Jay.

ABOUT THE PROJECT:

This is a coming-of-age story is about Jay, a fourteen-year-old boy who paints a mural to help him get through a troubled summer. Jay is definitely trying to understand his journey in life, but he lives with a strict single mother, Alma, who is expecting another child. She expresses nothing but tough love to Jay. She has Jay in a summer risk youth program, called STRONG to help him stay out of trouble. Without a father being present, the struggle to maintain a good and stable living becomes harder each present day for Jay.

NUESTRA MISIÓN:

Nuestra misión para este proyecto siempre ha sido promover el empoderamiento de nuestra juventud, de las mujeres, el orgullo y la conexión cultural de nuestra comunidad Centroamericana. En nuestra historia queríamos resaltar las dificultades de los padres solteros al intentar mantener unida a su familia ... Nunca es fácil, pero no significa perder la esperanza.

 

Hacer una historia realista que nos refleje a nosotros y a nuestra cultura fue muy importante. Entonces, para ser auténtico, este proyecto se filmó en Brentwood, NY, una de las comunidades salvadoreñas más grandes de los Estados Unidos. También pudimos elegir actores salvadoreños locales y la mayoría de los miembros de nuestro equipo son también salvadoreños.

OUR MISSION:

Our mission for this project has always been to promote empowerment for our youth, for women, pride, and cultural connection for our Central American community. In our story, we wanted to highlight the difficulties of single parents trying to keep their families together...It is never easy, but it doesn't mean losing hope.

 

Making a realistic story that reflects us and our culture was very important. So to be authentic, this project was filmed in Brentwood, NY, one of the largest Salvadoran communities in the United States. We were also able to cast local Salvadoran actors and the majority of our crew members are Salvadorans as well.

CÓMO SE UTILIZARÁN LOS FONDOS:

Nuestro principal objetivo es presentar nuestra película a prestigiosos festivales de cine el próximo año. Por lo tanto, el GoFundMe que se está recaudando se destinará a nuestra postproducción, donde podremos contratar un editor de video, un editor de sonido, un colorista y un compositor de películas. Todos estos son elementos importantes para completar nuestra película.

HOW THE FUNDS WILL BE USED:

Our main goal is to submit our film to prestigious film festivals this coming year. Therefore, the GoFundMe being raised will go towards our post-production where we will be able to hire a video editor, sound editor, colorist, and film composer. These are all important elements to completing our film.

LO QUE SIGNIFICA SU APOYO:

Es difícil hacer una película independiente. Y creemos que es aún más difícil cuando haces una película cultural que generalmente se pasa por alto. Pero con su apoyo podemos traer más diversidad a la pantalla y dar una "voz" a aquellos grupos/culturas que no tienen voz. Juntos podemos cambiar la narrativa de hacer películas más positivas sobre la cultura latina, especialmente la Centroamericana.

It is tough making an independent film. And we feel it is even harder when you are making a cultural film that usually gets overlooked. But with your support, we can bring more diversity to the screen and give a "voice" to those groups/cultures that are voiceless. Together we can change the narrative of making more positive films about the Latin culture, especially the Central American one.
