My name is Michelle Swain-Clauberg and I am Chuck Swain's younger sister. On Thursday, March 29th, Chuck was involved in a horrible accident with a propane tank explosion in his Raleigh home. He was brought immediately to the UNC Burn Unit ICU. He suffered extensive burns to 30% of his body, primarily his hands and legs. As you can imagine, his pain is unbelievable and the road ahead is long.
At this point, we know he will require a minimum of 6 weeks in the burn unit. First, he will undergo surgery and treatment for cleaning and debridement of wounds. Later, he will require multiple grafting surgeries, ongoing treatment to prevent infection, and months of physical therapy. Healing will be a journey; both for his body and spirit.
Those of you that know Chuck know he has a kind heart and a generous spirit. He is always there with a smile or a hug when you need it. He has always been there to help out his family and friends. This time he is the one needing our help. The out of pocket medical expenses will be great and he will unable to work for an undetermined period of time. If you are able to help, please consider a donation. It will be greatly appreciated. The money from this Go Fund Me account will be withdrawn and kept in an account for Chuck's use when he is far along in his recovery to make decisions for himself.
