Hello,
I am writing this on behalf of my good friend, Canna Caldwell who has lived with the debilitating effects of an inherited condition called Polycystic Kidney Disease for the better part of her life. Over the years the disease has progressed and she has struggled with constant pain, the inability to work, frequent visits to the hospital, and the fear of having to go on dialysis. She has been on the kidney donor list for 3 years now, but a donor has not been found as of yet.
Canna is an extraordinary person who has attempted to work as long as she could and even attended college all while in pain and going through constant hospitalizations and Doctor appointments.
In September, she finally was forced to have her diseased kidneys removed and is now on dialysis 3 days a week which has forced her to quit school. Dialysis makes her very tired, depressed and unable to function like she used to.
Canna is a single Mother with 3 beautiful daughters, one who is still under 18 and living at home. She has so much to live for, but it is hard to imagine the rest of her life on dialysis. She needs a kidney, ideally from a living donor. We are crossing our fingers and are hopeful a donor will come soon, but this disease has taken not just a toll on her Spirit, but financially as well. She not only has food, rental and utility costs, but medication costs as well.
