Amy Davis and her road to recovery

My name is Melanie Montgomery.  I am reaching out to you all, in hopes that you can help my dear, sweet friend, Amy Davis.  She recently spent a total of three weeks in a hospital (2 in Critical Care, 1 in General) in Houston, Texas fighting for her life but, with many prayers from her family and friends, she pulled through and survived.  Thank goodness!  She is awaiting permission from the doctors to come back to her home state, Colorado.  Everyone who knows Amy loves her.  She has to be one of the sweetest, most genuine people I have ever met in my life, and I love her dearly.  Please take the time to read what this amazing person has been going through and we would be forever grateful, if you could help her and her fabulous husband, Matt.

Amy is 32 years old and has suffered from Type 1 diabetes since she was a small child.  Doctors have tried oral medications, insulin injections, and combinations of the two of them, with no luck.  She was admitted to the hospital three weeks ago with pyelonephritis (a sudden and severe infection of the kidneys), sepsis (blood infection), pneumonia in both lungs and ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome)…that is just what she had THIS go round.  The last time she was hospitalized in October 2015, it was for pyelonephritis and sepsis.  Her pancreas doesn’t produce insulin which makes her insulin resistant.  She has cystitis, which is a pseudo bladder infection and inflammation of the bladder, so she never knows if she has a real infection or if it just her condition.  She cannot afford to spend the $300 about two times every month to go to the doctor; therefore, leaving her with multiple urinary tract infections and kidney issues.  Her insurance plan is extremely high, which makes her doctor visits, including her endocrinologist (for her diabetes supplies) very expensive.  Her current diabetes pump is from 2006, so it’s out of warranty and broken.  She is really in need of a new pump and a glucose monitor to watch her insulin resistance, but she cannot afford it, so she works with what she has now and does the best she can.  Due to her getting sepsis, it caused ARDS of which about only 20% of people survive.  Thank goodness she was one of the 20% to survive, but now she has tachycardia and low oxygen levels and will need to be monitored by an immunologist, an endocrinologist and a respiratory doctor, once she returns to Colorado, because a combination of the two can be deadly.

She felt bad about setting up a go fund me page because she doesn’t want people to feel like she’s taking advantage of their kindness and generosity, but she is in dire need of monetary assistance.  Due to many days of missed work by Amy (and many more to come while her body heals) and her amazing husband, all of the hospital bills, and the need for a new insulin pump and glucose monitor, I am asking for help for them.  We are truly thanking the Lord that she pulled through, but now she has the stress of figuring out how she is going to pay for all of the bills that are on their way to her.   Anything you all could give would be extremely helpful in lowering the cost out of her pocket.  I feel that the Davis family and Amy have gone through enough and, to alleviate the monetary costs, would help them move on without THAT stress and allow them to focus on her healing and prevention of future medical issues. Thank you SO much, in advance, for anything you can give this incredible woman and family. God bless you all!
