Mr. Phipps teaches Musical Theater at KIPP DC College Preparatory, a Title I high school in Washington, D.C.
In the face of the challenges of virtual school, students have worked incredibly hard on their slam poems and turned in some outstanding final slam poetry videos. The top 16 votegetters from Mr. Phipps' classes will earn a spot in our final "virtual poetry slam" and the chance to have their work judged by two local slam poets and an outstanding professional slam poet, Adam Gottlieb, of the movie "Louder than a Bomb." The final poetry slam will take place on Thursday, November 18th @ 5pm.
The top 5 votegetters will win copies of "Finna," a new poetry book by Nate Marshall, a poet we have studied extensively in class.
Cost breakdown:
-$100 to bring in Adam Gottlieb as a professional judge
-$100 for 5 copies of "Finna" by Nate Marshall for the 5 winners
