The Virginia Miller House Exhibit & Marker
Donation protected
Thank you so much for your interest in our very important fundraiser! We are collecting donations to pay for an exhibit and a bronze historical marker honoring Mrs. Virginia Miller and her historic home. All funds will be kept and maintained by The Meade County History Museum for both projects.
Virginia Miller was born, raised, and later passed away in her beautiful American colonial home that was built in 1870 and once stood facing Meade County High School. Like many members of her family, Virginia devoted her life to education in Meade County and later, after her passing in 2017, her historic home was dedicated to the students she so dearly loved. At that time the home was given a new life with updates and fresh paint throughout. Quotes by Virginia adorned the happy yellow walls, and a bronze plaque was placed by the door in her honor in 2021. Staff meetings, award ceremonies, and special events were held there and school picnic tables were scattered outside amongst to the gorgeous black oak trees, welcoming a peaceful break. The house was honored and full of life and hope, just as she would have wanted.
Unfortunately, important maintenance and repairs were not done on the house in the past two years and the house was demolished in June of this year. Strong attempts to save it failed but our request for parts of the home were honored. We now have the front door, the mailbox and house numbers, and the large pendant porch light that hung above the door. We were not able to get the sidelights around the door, so we plan to build them from scratch.
We have approval from the Fire Marshal to make changes to an existing door at the Meade County History Museum in order to replicate the entrance to the Virginia Miller House. We will be making some big constructional changes inside the museum that will be costly however, this will be a permanent exhibit. We also plan to run electricity to the porch light and wire lighting behind the sidelights surrounding the door. The goal is to give the feeling that the lights are always on and the spirit of the Virginia Miller House lives on.
In addition to the exhibit, we plan to erect a bronze historical marker to honor Virginia and her home on the site in which the house once stood. The marker will have information about Virginia Miller on one side and historical information about the house and property on the other.
A diagram of what is planned for the museum exhibit is available for you to see. We will have an open house and unveiling at the museum once it's finished. We hope to see you there!
Thank you so much for your support!
God Bless!
