VA Civics is promoting constitutional literacy, critical thinking, and civic engagement, empowering the next generation of leaders in Virginia.
VA Civics brings civic learning into the 21st century by providing resources on emerging, and challenging, constitutional questions, rooted in the history and theory of the American founding. Through the student-focused We the People program, VA Civics makes civic education meaningful, exciting, and brimming with potential.
VA Civics organizes all aspects of We The People: The Citizen and the Constitution civic education programs in Virginia, including teacher professional development, and the coordination and management of competitions for middle and high school students.
In our first year, we will hold two, one-day teacher trainings, a four-day Summer Institute, four regional We the People competitions for middle and high school, a Middle School State Championship, and a High School State Championship.
Our goals are ambitious, but we are confident that with your help, we can continue to grow the We the People program in Virginia, and educate the next generation of civic leaders.
In order to achieve our goals, we're looking for support in the following areas:
Fall 2018 one-day professional development workshop: $5,550 (or $185/teacher)
Northern Virginia We the People Regional competition: $4,250 (or $700/class)
Central Virginia We the People Regional competition: $4,250 (or $700/class)
Southwest Virginia We the People Regional competition: $4,250 (or $700/class)
Southeast Virginia We the People Regional competition: $4,250 (or $700/class)
We the People High School State Finals: $14,825 (or $1,483/class)
We the People Middle School State Finals: $14,825 (or $1,483/class)
Spring 2019 one-day professional development workshop: $5,550 (or $185/teacher)
Summer 2019 We the People Summer Institute: $29,000 (or $967/teacher)
Administrative/operating expenses: $9,350
