Virgil's Burial

Dear family and friends,
The Petty family has experienced a tremendous share of loss in this new year. My three brothers and I come from a long lineage of proud, hard-working, family men so it hurts to share this news - in this manner; however, many generations of strong men came before me, so I’m humbly writing to ask for your support.
As some of you may already know, we have lost both our grandfather, Bartow Petty (87), and my father, Virgil Petty (61) over the last two weeks.
We are still recovering from the initial devastation of the loss of our grandfather, who lived a long fulfilling life. But now, unfortunately, we must make arrangements for his son and our beloved father, who was involved in a hit and run accident just days before we lay Bartow to rest. The accident left our father with a broken neck and severe spinal cord injury. If you knew our father, you know he was a fighter. He held on strong through a week of surgeries and multiple complications, but in the end, our hero, Virgil Petty, took his last breath just 10 days after his father.
There is no way to prepare for a loss of this magnitude. My family and I are taking things day by day, trying yet again to plan a home going service for someone we thought we would have for many more years to come.
We are so grateful for the outpouring of love and support we have received. At this time, in lieu of flowers and food, we are asking that you please consider donating financial assistance for the burial and memorial services.
Please keep our family in your thoughts and prayers as we mourn the loss of two great men. Our lives will never be the same, but we are forever grateful for the time we were able to share together.
