<div>A kutyaszánversenyző Rácz Virág az elmúlt két telet Alaszkában töltötte, ahol fáradhatatlanul edzett, versenyzett és dolgozott azért, hogy valóra váltsa gyerekkori álmát, és ő legyen az első magyar szános aki célba ér az Iditarodon, a világ leghosszabb, 1600 kilométeres kutyaszánversenyén.

<div>Virág azóta a sportág szerelmese, hogy kislányként megpillantott egy kutyaszánt egy téli családi vakáció során. Magyarországon egy szánhúzó kutyákat segítő alapítványnál önkénteskedett, ahol örökbe is fogadott egy huskyt, majd hét éve Norvégiába költözött az álmait követve, hogy professzionális szánversenyzővé váljon.

<div>Az elmúlt két télen lehetősége nyílt kétszer fél évig Alaszkában edzeni és versenyezni a rendszeres Iditarod top 10-es sportági klasszis Mille Porsildnál, aki Virághoz hasonlóan a kutyák jólétét, megértését és boldogságát helyezi mindenek fölé.

<div>Virág és fantasztikus négylábú csapattársai az elmúlt télen sikeresen teljesíttettek három Iditarod-kvalifikációs versenyt (egy 200, egy 300 és egy 400 mérföldes távot), és ezzel kivívták a jogot az Iditarod-szereplésre is. Ezzel Virág 2027-ben az első magyar lehet, aki versenyez a legendás viadalon.

<div>A startvonalig vezető út azonban nemcsak a felkészülés, az edzés és a kutyákkal való törődés végtelen óráival van kikövezve, hanem jelentős anyagi áldozatot is követel, legyen szó állatorvosi költségekről, oltásokról, hámokról, és minden más felszerelésről, amire szükség lehet az alaszkai vadonban, továbbá kutyaeledelről és táplálékkiegészítőkről, lakóhely- és kennelbérlésről vagy az 1000 mérföldes versenyhez kapcsolódó hatalmas logisztikai, szállítási és utazási költségekről.

<div>Virag Racz has been in Alaska in the last two winters training, racing and preparing tirelessly to make her childhood vision come true and become the first Hungarian ever to finish the Iditarod, the longest sled dog race in the world.

<div>Virag has been in love with dogsledding ever since she saw a dog team run on a family holiday as a little girl. She adopted a husky still back in Hungary while volunteering for a foundation for abandoned sled dogs, and moved to Norway 7 years ago following the dream of learning what it takes to be a professional dog musher.

<div>She got the opportunity to spend the last two winters in Alaska training with perennial Iditarod top 10 finisher Mille Porsild, whose unwavering commitment to the welfare of these incredible animals is the shared foundation of her and Virag's professional ethos.

<div>Virag and her amazing dogs have successfully finished the Copper Basin 300. the Two Rivers 200, and the Kobuk 440 races this winter, thus qualifying for the Iditarod. She will be ready to race in 2027 as the first woman ever coming from her small, very much non-Arctic country.

<div>Getting to the starting line of the race however not only requires the endless, tireless hours of preparations, training and taking care of the dogs, but also a significant financial investment, be it veterinary care, vaccinations, the cost of sleds, harnesses, and other equipment, high quality dog food and supplements, renting a location in Alaska to live and train at, or the huge amount of logistics, airfare and transport costs just related to the 1000-mile race itself.
