Viper can't see

Hi everyone/anyone reading this. I love animals, and if you're reading this, than maybe you do to. I have a yorkiepoo and I've raised him since he was 8 weeks old, when I could adopt him. He has been my furbaby for 12 years now and I know he's getting up there in years, but I also know he has a lot of life left in him.

He is a loving, intelligent, funny, barky, licking (at times),boy. Look it, I used to have a family dog growing up, yet that dog was the "family' dog. This is my first dog I have owned and loved and raised and spent thousands on, for his food, vet bills, toys, and yes the bills and maintenance to own a loving fur companion are not to be discussed ;)  Well, let's just say, he has been worth every penny. I know you know what I mean.

I also know I'm not a billionaire or millionaire, or anything close to being financially stable these days....especially in Covid times. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for me either. I am a part time nurse and am only allowed to work at one work site, so I lost income due to Covid.

The story is of our beloved pet, Viper aka "Hyper Viper".  You know the one...he/she greets you with that run down to the front door, happy wag and wants to lick all the skin off your face, oh and smell to check and detect if you've been spending any of your time with any other furry mammals - yeah, that one!

Oh, he is such a joy to have around...he jumps and misses his landings on his purch on the couch or bed at times. He has good limbs, joints, blood, urine, lab tests, yep they all are in check! Thankyou!

But...he is now developing cataracts...the cloudy overlay over his beautiful dark brown eyes that has resulted in him bumping into door frames and not being able to retrieve his "puck" I throw him in the park. He absolutely LOVES to play fetch! And you know what? When I throw his "puck" in just the right fashion he can actually track it and find it, or follow me when I go retrieve it (when he misses it). Either way he goes crazy for this game and well I know it's fair to say it breaks my heart when I know he can't play this game like he used to.

He is my companion through and through. I know you might have one to, and that's maybe why you've read this far. Well, can I tell you more about him?

You see when my Mom suddenly passed away December of 2016 he knew and felt my sadness (as dogs do), they pick up on our emotions....Well that night, he actually let me hold his paw while I cried myself to sleep, or cried myself into a sleepless night, it's all a foggy memory now.  My point is, he never likes to be touched while he's sleeping, in fact he'll even growl when I try to stroke him lightly when I see him being so cute and fast asleep.

I almost think my Mom is inside him sometimes looking at me and just being there as a loving supporting companion. Yeah, weird right? Ok, I love my dog. I am not apologizing for that.

Ok, onto the "cruxt" of the story now....I don't have a lot of facebook friends, heck I think I only have around 30. So in revealing that, I probably won't have anyone even looking at this. I just really wanted to share "his" story, Viper's story. He is loved by anyone who meets him. He gives nothing but love and kisses in return. Children still think he's a puppy and they point to him "look a puppy!"

Viper emits a puppy love glowing energy and it is seen by anyone in his presence. I had put him into agility when he was around 4 yrs old and he LOVED  to jump, go through tunnels and do it all to get that cheer from the crowd and a treat in the end.

He is my best friend, with four furry legs. I just pray he can still see for a few more years and continue to be able to play "fetch" and look at me. He actually looks at me, and sees me, my eyes....I don't even have to say a word and he knows what I'm thinking and wishing he was or wasn't doing hahahaha (like scratching on the couch or bed) I think he's just "denning" when he does that, but dogs need discipline, just like children do.  :)

I know I have nowhere in the ballpark for "cataract surgery" and I'm no fool, when your dog ages, it's time to make the "tough decisions" for their sake and health and NO PAIN.

He remains full of energy and in good health, despite having all his teeth removed over a year ago now, as they were too plaque riddened and couldn't be saved. He has no mouth pain and actually still enjoys his small hard kibble, even though I do give him wet food to...:)

I found a vet on youtube talk about vitamin supplements that are helpful in slowing down the progression of cataracts, and I purchased a bottle. It's only been one day and time will only tell how his body reacts and if his eyes stop getting worse. The product has great reviews, so I obviously have to try them!

I don't know why I started a GoFundMe page, as I know this won't help him. Maybe I really just wanted to write about him and share how he's made such an impact on my life. I can't afford too much for him as he ages but I sure do wish I could buy him 10 more years...! I know it's not practical.

Anyways thanks for reading and creating this space so I can put my words out there and be able to express how much I love Viper and what he has truly done for me and my family through the years.

I love you Viper! I promise to continue to do all I can for you and your health with whatever time God grants me with you. You are a SUPER DOG beyond your capabilities of knowing what you are! Kisses, hugs, yes more kisses and hugs.
