Vincent Academy Summer Camp

Donation protected
Regardless of economic circumstances, every child deserves a great education, and with adequate support, every child can succeed academically

The money raised in this campaign will go directly towards supporting Vincent Academy's summer program. The summer program helps ensure Vincent Academy's students maintain and enhance the skills they've learned throughout the school year and offers students a safe place to learn, grow, and play during summer months. In addition to continuing the students' education, the VA summer program also takes the children on trips to local museums, parks, and pools.

VA's summer program relies entirely on private donors and volunteers to operate each summer. The program is still looking to raise $10,000 for the 2017 summer program and would greatly appreciate any and all donations!

Thanks,
Lauren

Vincent Academy (VA) is a charter elementary school and 501 (c)(3) organization located in the heart of West Oakland. VA is grounded in the essential belief that every child deserves a great education, and with adequate support, every child can succeed in school. Vincent Academy has created a safe, joyful, academically rigorous, and community-minded elementary school environment where children can develop their innate talents and skills, learn about the complex world around them and receive the support necessary to truly thrive.

Open eleven hours each day throughout the school year and summer, VA combines a rigorous academic program, augmented by a rich offering of the arts, with a strong system of support services for students.

More than 98% of Vincent Academy’s 280 students are children of color, and approximately 90% are socioeconomically disadvantaged; two-thirds of the students live within the school’s zip code area in in West Oakland. Many have been traumatized by the impacts of drugs and violence. Negatively affected by their environment, many Vincent Academy students are challenged in terms of learning readiness. In order for these children to succeed in school, special strategies and enhanced services are provided. Approximately one-quarter of the school’s students receive mental health services, which are offered through a contract with Lincoln Child Center, a local resource center that specializes in working with vulnerable children and families. To mitigate learning deficits, Vincent Academy invests heavily in academic intervention – one on one and small group work - for students needing additional academic support beyond the classroom.
