Help assist with honor and dignity the beloved matriarch of a local friend whose entire family’s prayers reach out to San Pedro Sula, Honduras

For those friends and family who know Sra. Vilma Del Carmen Garbutt Tejeda these lines are testament to the love and admiration of her family for a devoted wife, supportive mother and long-time proprietress of their small family owned business in the heart of San Pedro Sula, Honduras who wish to share her personal story and their appeal. For those of you who do not know after 50 years marriage, holding down a house hold and family business raising and education three exceptional children Sra. Vilma; she has quietly suffered these last several years at the loss of both her kidneys; the rituals of dialysis, related ailments, high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, discitis osteomyelitis, pain and associated complications. Recently her condition has had a turn for the worse, now her husband and children are reeling to keep up with the increasing uninsured cost of medical testing, treatments and supplies needed to ease her suffering in very likely the final stages of her cherished life.

Many here in the United States may be familiar with the multitude of healthcare insurance and service options available to us but half a continent away in parts of Central America, even after years of hard work and saving for retirement, the healthcare cost for even a single terminally-ill diagnosed loved one can be devastating for an entire family. Not to mention the lack of suitable facilities and staffing to treat with dignity each patients individual needs. In public medical facilities families are able to consult with and receive treatment from trained medical staff but are often left to obtain and supply the prescribed medicines on their own as well as to attend to the larger part of the patients “personal care needs” themselves.

For family that are separated from Sra. Vilma by long distance and cannot be her side or even those near who must continue to work to keep the family business running, the reality is she is often left without the 24 hour round the clock care she truly needs to make a recovery or at best cope with dignity this stage of her condition.

Due to all this, as the eldest sibling I never thought I would have to make the hard decision to have to leave my job with no pay to go in an emergency leave trip on April 16th to go and become a healthcare provider to my mother after she has currently been at the hospital for 52 days. Being here I was providing as much monetary help as it was possible to me,
As her family we are appealing for any financial assistance you may provide to help cover the associated costs of her hospitalization, medicine, continued treatments, fresh linens, personal cleanliness, hygienic supplies and travel costs. Donations of whatever you can afford will be apprecciated, your dollars go farther than you know. $20, $50, $100

Our goal is $ 10,000.00 in 10 days or sooner if possible.

Our entire family thanks you in advance for you generosity in this troubling times.
