Hurricane Relief - Villalba PR

At almost 20 days, Hurricane Maria has devastated the island of Puerto Rico; a place that I call home. The people of Puerto Rico were left without power, water, communication and many have lost their homes. Help has been funneling in but not fast enough, thereby leaving people in vulnerable communities in extremely precarious conditions. My hometown of Villalba is unfortunately one of those towns, where communication and electricity is still not established. People have lost their homes, food is scarce, and the need for water and medication increases daily.

My family is thankfully doing better, however, there are others in rural areas who are less fortunate. As soon as she was able to do so, my mother Idalia Bonilla reopened her pharmacy to help get the proper health services and dispense medication around the area. Others just like her who have not lost much have been using their organizations to provide for the needs of our people but the resources are scarce, leaving the residents of Villalba in a state of uncertainty of how long they can keep this up.

A day doesn't go by without me thinking of ways to help those communities rebuild and to provide them with the necessary means to do so. Thus, I’m starting this hurricane relief fund! Help me get Puerto Rico and Villalba back on its feet- remember that no donation is too small. A lot of people have shown their solidarity and support these past couple of weeks and have asked me of ways they can help, while specifically knowing which communities they’re helping rebuild. The funds collected will go directly to those in Villalba who are in dire need of economic, health and shelter relief by working with local Villalba emergency services and community leaders.
