10/1/15  We are back!!! The team would like to extend a HUGE thank you for all you did to make this Library Build project possible.  If you are on Facebook, our site "Help us Build a Library in Ecuador" should be updated soon as well, with photos and possibly a video. 
We couldnt have done it without all of you!  We are trying to mail out DVDs of the trip to all of you next week, highlighting the work and our travels.

Our building plans have changed from building some homes  to a library.  Due to the culture down there, we were told it could cause dissension,  and or jealousy and hurt the progess of work that has been done to build up community. We do not want to trample on that ideal, and are moving forward with a library which will help many, not just a few families. Maybe in the future we can still work with housing somehow.  For those that have donated, we hope this is ok.  Please contact us if not. 
     Our team has grown and there are now 11 of us !! We should be able to get quite a bit built in our 10 days down there. The $15,000 will be for material and labor.  Our tickets have been booked! We travel in August. 
We look forward to sharing the progress when we get back.

In 2007 my daughter and I (Chris)had the oppurtunity to work in an orphanage in Swaziland, Africa.  It changed us forever and we have wanted to go back. Due to cost of travel, and illness over there, it has not been possible. This past year instead, I  went to visit a school and "Leper house" in Guayaquil, Ecuador.  
 When I saw the "Villages of San Francisco" in Ecuador, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. Next to Bolivia, Ecuador is the second poorest country in South America. I stayed with a local priest in his home in this village to help with the school and  met some of the amazing people who live in this area.   I also spent time at "Damien House" which is a make shift hospital for those fighting the "Hansen Disease" (which used to be called Leprosy). My goal this year is to return to this area and build some permanent housing for people who live there in squalor. The residents of "San Francisco" are simple and humble and ask for nothing.  They work hard at their jobs and for their family's needs: clothing, education etc.  School is very important to the parents, hoping for their children to have the opporunity of a life  outside of poverty.  Equador is very warm and has a very rainy season as well. Most of the homes are built with wood frames and cane siding from the local agriculture. Building a permanent home of block, concrete and metal roofing will allow families the oppurtunitie to stay dry, live comfortable and enjoy indoor bathroom facilities. This is where your generous donation would help. I have made contacts for the builders who specialize in this type of work and I will provide all the labor for them.  I am bringing 5 highschool youth to help build.  What we need from you is help for the materials.
