Joel Medina's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
Joel Medina is an enthusiastic member of the VIllage Alliance Public Safety Team, and is one of two employees still with us since founding the program nearly four years ago.  His streetwise and engaging attitude allows him to accomplish a challenging job with aplomb.

Six weeks ago Joel had a seizure right before beginning his shift, luckily the employees at the Astor Place Dunkin Donuts were quick to respond and called 911.  Tests showed an operable brain mass that was removed by surgery within a few days.  A biopsy later tested positive for cancer (Stage 4) and Joel is currently undergoing chemotherapy to improve chances to live a longer life.

The Village Alliance is asking our Board and community to help defer some of Joel's medical costs, specifically his chemotherapy medication and living expenses while he is out of work.  Our Public Safety Team is contracted through a third-party security vendor and, unfortunately, Joel had let his insurance lapse to make ends meet.  We can all imagine how expensive this sort of medical treatment can be, especially as an hourly-wage employee with no income coming in.

Contributions may remain anonymous, and any amount will help Joel's quality of life.  The need is urgent over this time period.

Thank you for your help.
