Help Vigil Family Rebuild

Donation protected

On October 9, 2017, Adolfo and Hermelinda Vigil, fled the wall of fire that consumed all they had worked for in their full yet challenging lives. Their young adult children in the home; Ricardo, Isela, and Juan, escaped as well, leaving behind all they owned, with the exception of their vehicles and Isela’s two lovebirds. While their lives speak of love, honor, and resilience, the Vigil family needs our help to remain hopeful and rebuild. We truly cannot imagine a family more worthy of the investment from their community of friends, family, and colleagues to help them rebuild their home. The goal of this GoFundMe has been set for $50,000, to support the Vigil family in securing a down payment for their home and rebuilding their lives.

Adolfo has worked as a laborer for Imwalle Gardens for over two decades, and Hermelinda has served our community in a variety of domestic positions, with Burbank Housing as her employer for the past several years. Despite not having the opportunity of education themselves, Adolfo and Hermelinda labored with great faith and integrity to provide the foundation that resulted in all five of their children graduating from high school, and three (so far) completing higher education degrees. Lilliput Families has been fortunate to have Isela Vigil, a kinship support case manager, join our team in August of 2016. In her steady, purely genuine, and efficient manner, she transformed her position into one in which she not only meets the emergency needs of those who have taken on the care of a family (or close community) member’s child, but she also educates our community and recruits caregivers for our children in out-of-home care. Gentleness, empathy, skill, passion, and inner-strength are just a few adjectives that describe Isela’s way of being. All of the Vigils’ adult children serve the community through their chosen work, with their youngest, age 21, attending Junior College. Diagnosed at age 14, with a chronic medical condition, Juan hopes to improve the lives of others by working in the medical field.

Adolfo Vigil brought his family to Sonoma County in 1996, after having worked in the wineries since he was seventeen. He provided for them, along with Hermelinda, on a wage of $7.00 per hour. Through great love, faith, wisdom and perseverance, he and Hermelinda saved the money to buy their modest home in Coffey Park (an area incinerated by NorCal fires). All of their family memories and celebrations were in that home: now ashes. Adolfo and Hermelinda model lives of integrity and hope for their children, and raised them to value community and service.  Please share with their community in donating any amount you are able, to help the Vigil family remain hopeful and persevere in the face of this devastating loss. No amount is too small, as this is a family who understands that it is the love and intention behind the offering that will help them rise again.

Please support this GoFundMe of $50,000 to assist the Vigil family in securing a down payment for a new home and rebuilding their lives.
