Project Update 20Feb2020
On the 03Feb2020 I met with the president of SAPP in Ho Chi Minh City and donated money to purchase 800 Health Insurance Cards which will be distributed to the needy in Dong Thap province. This year I hope to make the donation in November which will enable SAPP to purchase and distribute the health cards before the end of the year.

Project Update 25Dec19
Come January 2020 it will be the second year that our Rotary Club eClub Latitude 38 will be purchasing Health Insurance Cards for Vietnamese who would otherwise not be able to afford them. All donations go towards buying the cards, no donated funds are spend on admin or fees. For this project any admin costs are covered by our members themselves.

This year, and after discussing with SAPP in Ho Chi Minh City ( Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients ) we have decided to purchase Health Cards in the Dong Thap province which is in the far west of Vietnam bordering Cambodia in a poor area and in need of support. The local government subsidises the health cards more in this province so with the money already donated ( over $2000 AUD from donors and with a District 9820 grant of $2000 AUD ) we aim to be able to purchase 800 individual health cards. For example: with $100 AUD we can purchase approx 20 cards. That's 20 people who can now access medical services in Dong Thap province. Our goal is to assist 800 people. I think this is amazing so help us get there

Project update

In January 2019 Rotary eClub Latitude 38 presented 142 Health Insurance Cards to the needy residents of Ben Tre Province in the South of Vietnam. In Australian dollars this amounted to $2000.
Fundraising for the coming year has already started with a very generous donation of $1000.
Please help Latitude 38 raise funds for this very worthy project.

The Rotary Club of Latitude 38  based in Australia has a member who volunteers with an organisation called Sponsoring Association for Poor Patients (SAPP) serving meals at Ho Chi Minh City’s largest public hospital on Saturdays. He speaks highly of the group’s focus to assist the poor.

Each year every person in Vietnam must purchase a health insurance card. The cards cost  approximately $AUD43  and ensures free medical treatment.

For the poor Vietnamese, the government will subsidise the card for between 70% to 90% depending on where they are located. This means that the Vietnamese living in poverty only need to pay up to $AUD13 per person but a large family finds it difficult to cover that amount for each of its members.

One of the aims of SAPP is to provide 2000 health cards for each of their five targeted provinces. Some of these provinces are a little remote but one of them is Ben Tre which is within travelling distance from Ho Chi Minh City. The subsidy rate for Ben Tre is 30% so SAPP would be covering approx $AUD13 per card with a goal of 2000 cards to support poverty stricken Vietnamese and so allowing them free access to medical treatment and medication. .

The Rotary eClub of Latitude 38 would like to raise $AUD3000 which would provide approximately 225 health cards towards this goal. It already has $AUD1000 in hand through the generosity of the Rotary Club of Batemans Bay in NSW,  Australia.

The eClub of Latitude 38 is supporting this project as its first project in Vietnam.  It will also enable the club to make valuable contacts with the local authority which in turn will help with other projects.
