Friends & Family,
This year marks an important year for my family as it’s our 40 year anniversary from when we fled the country. I am traveling back for the first time with my parents to visit the city that we tried so hard to escape from today. I can’t stop thinking about how fortunate and blessed my family is to have beat the odds from hiding and being chased by communists, surviving 9 days out in sea on small fishing boat, being rescued by a Japanese oil tanker, taken in by a missionary and ultimately getting sponsored by a church in the United States to allow us to be here today.
Growing up, I didn’t understand the struggles and courage that my parents had gone through being in their early twenties and taking me on this journey as an infant. I just remembered bits and pieces from hearing family friends sharing theirs stories and my parents sharing theirs at the kitchen table. I do know that they originally decided not to take me as an infant on their first attempt of trying to leave, however, by the grace of God, events did not work out and they attempted their escape the second night in which they deciding on taking the risk of taking me.
So needless to say, this will be a personal trip for me to learn about my past. I plan on visiting and document the locations where my parents hid and planned their escape for freedom. I plan to ask all my questions that I never had the chance ask growing up.
I want my daughter to know what her grandparents had to go through to allow us to be here. I want to put closure to questions I always wanted to ask but never did.
I’m truly blessed..so so blessed and the point of my post is that I want to run a campaign to give back to needy children in Vietnam starting today until August 26th to see if we can gather some donations to help those in need. I’ll be in Vietnam and plan is to donate to local children charities & orphanages. I will be documenting all this while I’m over there and will keep everyone posted. If you’d like to donate, please see the link below. Thank you in advance for your love and generosity.
