Raising Funds to Feed Vienna Students/Families

DONATIONS NEEDED TO FEED VIENNA CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES

Thank you to everyone who has donated so far!! Prior to launching this GoFundMe, we raised $6,990 via Facebook , and our family businesses, JDA Custom Homes, Inc. and Christina Zahakos Rice, Realtor, matched $3,000 in donations for a total of $9,990. We hope to raise even more thru this GoFundMe.
There are hundreds of children and their families in Vienna who are in need of our financial support during this time of crisis to buy groceries!
What started as a "small effort" is now growing and has become a collective effort between multiple schools, churches and individuals to help students/families that are food insecure during this challenging time.
The Vienna Student Food Initiative is a collaboration between the Vienna, Virginia participating schools (Cunningham Park Elementary, Louise Archer Elementary, Marshall Road Elementary, Madison High School), local Churches (Vienna Presbyterian Church, First Baptist Church of Vienna, Christ Church Vienna, Vienna Baptist Church), and a nonprofit agency, Belong!, to collect funds that will be used specifically to purchase grocery store gift cards to help vulnerable students and their families have access to food during the current pandemic.
We are partnering with Belong! so they can get all of the donations received thru this GoFundMe fundraising effort to the schools and families in need.
HOW CAN YOU HELP?! With your donation, we will buy Giant Food or Safeway gift cards and give them to participating school counselors for distribution to students and families in need. We have over 300 students in Vienna schools that rely on free and reduced priced school meals each day and that list could continue to grow as parents face layoffs in the workplace and uncertainty from their employers.
Beyond breakfast and lunch on weekdays. we want to ensure children who are a part of the free and reduced lunch program and their families have dinner and weekend meals to eat as well. Many of these families may have a parent (or both) whose job is in jeopardy or has already been lost due to the COVID-19 crisis. Let's help make sure these families have money to buy groceries for dinner while we navigate the uncharted and unimaginable time ahead of us.
Can we rally together as a community to support Vienna children and their families who are in need during this time and help make sure they are all receiving 3 meals a day?
