The fact that this story is true is incredible. It's hard to believe that people are willing to take this kind of risk.

I enjoyed this book thoroughly. It gives a unique perspective of what it was to be a KGB leader in a technical field. I also liked learning what life was like during the sixties and seventies in the USSR.

5.0 out of 5 stars truly one of the best I've read yet. Scary how closely current US Politics resembles the Soviets

Beautifully written. Captivating.
But the uncanny resemblance between between the USSR of Stalin through today and the direction of today's American Political scene is a way to close for my peace of mind.

This is a book you should not miss. Sheymov was a top Soviet spy who defected to the West. He tells about life in the KGB and some of the notable missions he undertook, including being sent to Beijing to see how the Chinese were bugging the Soviet Embassy. Throughout the book, his intense intelligence is fascinating to observe, and he needs all of his wiles to figure out how to escape to the West with his family. An amazing book that you won't forget.
