Vickie: Fight for Remission (Pancreatic Cancer)

We are starting this page for a dear friend and colleague, Vickie McWhirter. On April 23, 2018, during a scheduled surgical procedure Vickie found out she had stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer.

Vickie has served in the Mansfield Independent School District for 20 years supporting special education students. She serves as a Job Coach encouraging job readiness skills. Vickie has enabled vital employability skills in special education students across the district while building a strong rapport with the business community. The fostered vocational skills allow students to become gainfully employed; for some before graduation and others after graduation. The vital vocational skills students learn enable them to keep a job for an extended period.

Vickie’s big heart has made her a favorite among students and employees. Students from years past still ask how Mrs. “Quarter” is doing and are overly excited when they encounter her, and current students are thrilled when they find out she is their job coach. Employers bargain to make sure she is the job coach at their business where she is loved and respected by the employees and patrons. Vickie has dedicated her life to serving and supporting special education students within MISD. Now she needs our support.

Vickie is married to Terry McWhirter, and they have one son, one daughter, and five grandchildren, to which she is raising one of her grandson's age thirteen. She is a dedicated wife and loves family. Her fight for remission began with numerous roadblocks from the insurance company to approve medical tests that would determine the origin of the cancer. This information is vital to assure the doctors use the correct chemotherapy. Exactly two months after her diagnosis of cancer, the doctors diagnosed it as pancreatic cancer. She finally began chemo treatments July 26th.

Let us help Vickie and her family focus on treatment and not the tremendous financial burden of medical expenses. My prayer is this page will allow Vickie and her family to focus only on her care to fight this cancer.

All proceeds will go to Vickie’s care and medical expenses. If you are not able to give monetarily, please pray for her healing! She and her family have a strong faith and believe in the power of prayer! #nofear
