Amber’s Cancer Medical Expenses

The day after we were told by the doctor that Amber has  either Ovarian  or appendix cancer, she woke up in a positive mood and ready to fight. We had spent the previous day in shock and we’re still in shock. Amber loves music and typically has a song running through her head. After waking from a much needed nap, she landed on the name “Earl” after the song by the Dixie Chicks. We’ve been calling the cancer “Earl” for a week. The doctors still can’t tell us a lot about Earl until they perform surgery. So we may not know much but we know we’re ready to say goodbye to him. Within the span of a week we have traveled to KU Med Cancer Center nearly every day for appointments, and have spent multiple hours at the center each time.  Amber goes in for surgery next week to remove as much of the cancer as is safely possible and to begin chemo treatments. The hospital stay will be 7-10 days with the first day or two in ICU.  The oncologists will know more about where the cancer generated from once they do a biopsy during surgery.  There are still a lot of unknowns on what to expect.  Hearing  the words “ports/drains/eiliostomy/feeding tubes” not to mention 55 staples and having to take a minimum of 8 weeks off to recover have been very scary.  

We’ve just started this journey and medical expenses are adding up. We’ve had several appointments, tests and scans already with more to come after surgery along with additional treatment and care. We are not ones to ask for help if we can at all avoid it. This was very sudden and unexpected news and we could use any and all help. Prayers are greatly appreciated too!
