Carmen's medical fund

Donazione protetta
Almost a year ago now Carmen began a long and difficult journey.  She realized that something was wrong in January of last year and by March she had been diagnosed with cancer, a rare and difficult-to-treat liver cancer called cholangiocarcinoma.  She has been through countless treatments and procedures starting last summer, but with little benefit.  Finally, last November she began a series of treatments that are benefitting her and we are very grateful.  However, the current treatments include some things that our insurance considers “experimental” and are not covered.  The treatments also require us to travel far to receive them.  This comes after a difficult year, last year, with time away from work and the additional medical expenses that we incurred.  We have struggled to put together the payments and have been blessed by the gifts of several people, but the final estimate to complete the treatments is $80,000.  This new expense follows an already difficult time last year with many medical expenses and a great deal of time away from work.  I have found ways to pay for most of that, but am still running short.  I did not think that I would ever be in this position, but I feel that I must make a plea for help for Carmen.  I am her husband, Daniel, and we have been married for 36 years.  I know her better than anyone and can tell you that she has been giving of herself her whole life.  She has always been a dedicated mother and wife and has over and over again proven that she would do anything to help or take care of her family.  She has also been a dedicated daughter.  For many years she consistently worked to see that the needs of her mother were met.  Her mother now lives in a Residential Care Facility, but for years prior to that Carmen would visit her mother two or three times a day to make sure that she had meals, that her bills were paid, that her medical care was addressed, and to take care of any other needs.  She would not leave town unless she could make arrangements for her mother’s care while she was away.  She has also consistently helped just about anyone that she came across that had a need.  As an example, one family new to the area that we lived in and without dental insurance, had a child that needed urgent dental care.  As is typical of Carmen, when she found out about the need she would not stop until she had found a dentist and made arrangements for the dental care to be paid for.  That family has referred to Carmen as their “guardian angel” ever since then.  I say these things because they are the types of things that Carmen has always done and indicate the type of person that she is.  She has cried when telling me that she feels so bad that people have to take care of her now, but I try to assure her that it is her time to receive after all these years of giving.

If I had more time I could pay the medical bills coming in, but I don’t have more time and so I am humbly asking that if you have the means and are so led, we very gratefully and humbly accept your assistance. We thank those who give and those who have given and appreciate your prayers.  May God bless you abundantly.

I would also like to mention that Jessica has agreed to do benefit concerts.  If you can help with putting together a benefit concert in your area, please contact me to set that up.  Thank you.
