Hello! Thank you for taking a minute to read this. I have been battling with myself regarding making this request, but I know that this may be the only way I will be able to follow through with the opportunity I have been presented.
As most of you know, I am currently in my third year of pharmacy school at LECOM, where I will have completed my didactic education in April of 2018. I have been presented with an amazing opportunity to travel to Chacraseca, Nicaragua for a Global Health Trip with an organization called JustHope along with DOCARE, which is the "Doctors Without Boarders" of osteopathic medicine. Chacraseca is an extremely impoverished area of Nicaragua with 2 physicians and 1 dentist for 8000 people, in which we have a true chance to make a difference.
During the Global Health Trip, myself along with physicians, nurses, pharmacists, and other health professional students will be providing medical and community health services to the residents of Chacraseca and surrounding communities. We will be partnering with Nicaraguan doctors and nurses to provide access to this underserved population, while also learning about a different culture and health care system.
I could not be more appreciative of the experience I am being presented with to learn about a different culture and global issues within the community, as well as to further my mission to serve the underserved. All funds raised will cover costs of medical supplies and medications we will be bringing, travel costs, lodging, most meals, in-country transportation, translator expenses, as well as trip coordination and leadership.
