VFP Viet Nam Peace Tour 2018

Veterans For Peace VIET NAM TOUR 2018

Viet Nam "50th Anniversary Commemoration" Peace Tour
Hosted by Veterans For Peace, Viet Nam's Hoa Binh (Peace) Chapter 160

1968 was the year of the Tet Offensive, Khe Sanh and the My Lai Massacre.

Our mission is to address the legacies of the American War in Viet Nam. Each member of the tour will raise and donate $1000 to contribute to the recovery still underway of unexploded ordinances (UXO), the tragedy of Agent Orange/Dioxin and poverty in the country.

Here is just an example of why I am going and what your contribution will help.

"That's what life is all about, giving back"
- Suel Jones

This 2018 tour is humanitarian in it's contributions, its veteran ambassadors for peace, it's educational nature with historical stops with Vietnamese sharing their stories of survival and it is a healing journey for Veterans still struggling with memories that haunt their every dreams.

My personal journey through life has led me through many twists and turns, from naïve working class teenager to a Marine Machine Gunner in Vietnam 1968.

I left the war but the war never left me.

I saw death suck life from innocent souls, not only did our bombs and bullets take lives but also a poison that we rained from the heavens in a mist on jungles, rice paddies and villages. That mist was a poison known as Agent Orange/Dioxin.

Though I survived combat, I didn’t escape unscathed, the war and military service still plague my dreams.

December 16, 1977 My first child Casey Allen Shea was born and was to suffer affects of Agent Orange same as so many Vietnamese children had with multiple birth anomalies; a cleft palate, congenital heart disease, prune belly and a seizure that we feared losing him before we could even hold him in our arms.

Casey survived to see his sister Harmony born a year later and it wasn’t until 1981 that he was scheduled for heart surgery which went terribly bad and put Casey into a coma for seven weeks, that's when the gods of war would deliver their final blow, as Casey took his last breath in my arms at the sweet age of three on February 25th 1981 and was no more.

Casey’s death and his sister Harmony who was left to grow up without her brother taught me to be a strong advocate for peace, a world without war and healthy planet for all children to grow up in without fear, without want and without hate.

We spend so much of our wealth on weapons of mass destruction, wars and occupations as we waste natural resources and poison our planet.

I am asking you to fund me so I can square the circle as I entered the Marines in 1968 and will hopefully find some resolve and peace in the 50th Commemoration the turning points of the war that eventually led to it end in 1975.

I am now a grandfather who wants to see his 5 year old granddaughter and 9 month old grandson grow up in a world where we War No More, where national borders are not obstacles, where the global human family sees as its’ responsibility to care for the earth by protecting the environment and ending militarism.
