Vets and Vets Hurricane Relief

About Us

Veterinarian, Veteran, and Veterinarian Veteran from Tennessee and Kansas heading to the greater Houston area to provide relief for animals impacted by hurricane Harvey. We will be traveling to Texas to help care for animals that were left behind when people were forced from their homes and hopefully reunite animals with their families.

While the decision to leave your home is an extremely difficult one, the decision to leave your pet behind to keep your family safe only makes that impact harder. Some shelters will not accept pets, or only accept pets if they are contained within pet carriers. This has led to the forced separation of pets from their loved ones. Both the families and these pets are terrified as the storm continues to dump water into the already flooded area.

Our group will be traveling to Texas starting on Thursday, 31 August, and traveling to the greater Houston Area. We will be bringing one Mobile Veterinarian Clinic (Pick-up with specialized storage box) and another truck filled with supplies. Our goal is to eventually acquire a boat to help search for and rescue animals that have been isolated from their families.

Where will your money go?

Your money will go to help cover the expenses related to travel down to Texas, Medical Supplies, Food, Water, and Rescue equipment. Our initial goal is set at $5,000, if we are able to reach that goal prior to reaching the Houston Area we will acquire a boat to help search for stranded animals and provide them medical care.

We are also currently stocking up on Medical Supplies, Pet food, Water, Water purification equipment, fuel, and food for the team going to Texas. Our goal is to provide direct aide at animals and not require any additional aide to support our group.

We will provide an accounting of where your money was used and updates through our Facebook group for the animals we have helped. We are bringing camera and a laptop to update pictures and videos of the animals that we are helping.

In the event that we collect more funds than we are able to use we will give the excess donations other groups helping with disaster relief to the people and pets impacted by hurricane Harvey.

Our current plan is to withdrawl funds daily, and distribute them to our members as needed. We will update the group on any major purchases or aquisitions that we make.

Why are we not a charity?

We want to be able to help now and not wait for the paperwork to be approved by a bureaucrat. Because this is a voluntary effort and one that we will be leaving our jobs to pursue, we will figured that by the time the paperwork is approved, our time in Texas will be over.
