Vet Global Book Program

Donation protected
Veterinarians around the world need our help.

I co-ordinate the Book Program for the Commonwealth Veterinary Association ( find out more here ). Within this program, older textbooks are generously donated by Australian and New Zealand Veterinarians. They all come to me, in Tasmania, and then I distribute them, free of charge, to veterinarians in other Commonwealth countries who do not have access to nor can afford such books (the average cost for a veterinary text is $180) .

The books go to places like Malawi (pictured above), Nigeria, Pakistan, Belize, Uganda (pictured below) and Timor Leste. These veterinarians use the books to enhance their own knowledge to better treat pets and livestock and thus improve animal welfare in disadvantaged communities. Many books also go to university libraries to help with the teaching of undergraduate veterinarians.

Whilst we have lots of books, we desperately need money to post them. From Australia, the postage costs are very high (e.g. a box of eight books to Zambia costs $100). If you can donate anything to this cause, no matter how small, I would be most grateful.

If you would like to donate any textbooks, please contact me through the comments section.
