Some of you may know Derrick Perry’s story and some may not. Let me first say that Derrick is an extremely hard working single father of one who has always provided for his family regardless of his condition. Derrick is not a person that would ever ask for assistance and one of the hardest working people that I know. He was able to maintain several jobs with being on dialysis 7 days a week for 8 hours at a time. In 2000 Derrick was diagnosed with Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) which is the leading cause of kidney failure in adults. He had regular monthly visits to the Durham VA Medical Center.
Derrick’s kidney continued to decline and he was put on dialysis in 2015 and also placed on the Kidney Transplant waiting list. This put a toll on Derrick but him and his family kept their faith in God. They knew that he would see him through this chapter in his life.
After prayers from many, on July 28th, 2018 a miracle occurred! After years of dialysis, Derrick received a call from the Nashville, TN VA Medical Center letting him know someone was a match and was able to donate him a kidney. Derrick flew out on July 29th and had surgery that day. Derrick’s parents were by his side in Nashville and dedicated their time to helping take care of him. Derrick stayed the next 2 weeks in Nashville before he was released to travel back to NC. He had to be evaluated daily to ensure his body accepted his new kidney.
By the grace of God, Derrick is doing amazing and healing each and every day. He will be out of work the next 3 months and unable to receive any income. With Derrick being a single father and the only one with income, we are asking family and friends for their support. We want Derrick to spend his time and energy healing and not having to worry about finances. Here's where you come in...Please help with whatever donation you can. Every little bit helps.
