Vet Fund for Dog Mauled by Pitbulls

Hello family, friends, and caring community members,

On Saturday April 7th, Zack and Serena's much beloved dog Sabre was attacked in his own backyard by two unknown pitbulls. With a two-on-one mauling, he barely survived. Luckily, because of heroic neighbors, he is still here with us today. Please consider donating to help this wonderful family cover the costs of treatment, and to help us reward the hero neighbors with a gift.

The attack was brutal and a traumatic shock. Our happy buddy Sabre was in his own gated backyard when neighbors heard intense fighting. Seeing that Zack & Serena weren't home, our hero neighbors stepped into action -- spraying the attacking pitbulls with water and breaking the lock on the fence to quickly get Sabre to safety and shut the other dogs in until Animal Control came to pick them up. They then contacted Zack and took Sabre to the emergency vet where they began treatment for blood loss and his severe bite wounds on his face, ears, neck, back, legs, etc.

As I write this, it's two days later and we are happy to know that Sabre will survive! Today's surgery went well, and despite his gruesome wounds and cries of pain, recovery is expected. However, costly special treatment that would require daily trips out of town has been recommended to help save Sabre's ear, which the Veterinarian is afraid he might lose if it doesn't heal well and fast.

Of course, in a situation like this, we would like to think that the owners of the attacking dogs will take responsibility and pay for the medical expenses, but as of yet the bills are stacking up and nothing is known about the responsible party's intention or ability to pay. Zack and Serena could use all the help they can get *now* for the list of healthcare expenses . What the total costs will be cannot be determined at this point. Our goal for donations is just an estimate based on what we know so far.  And of course, donation amounts that are more than what is needed will be donated in turn to other services that help animals in bad situations.

Additionally, it is important to us to reward the brave neighbors who risked being attacked themselves to save Sabre's life! We are hoping to get them a gift certificate for a nice dinner out and plenty of dog toys for their dogs, including their little girl pup who they say is like Sabre's girlfriend. The neighbors are an inspiration of kindness and bravery because in addition to all this, they also have already contributed $100 to Sabre's vet bills. We are in awe and forever grateful!

It is important to mention that Zack and Serena's fence is very sturdy and 6 feet tall all the way around. Animal Control was baffled at how the attacking dogs made it in because, by all standards, Sabre was in a protected and secure environment. With this occurrence, however, my brother would like to add additional protection to the fence that would give extra security in the future. I am hoping that the donations will also give them the resources to add this protection to the property and give them all more peace of mind following this shocking event.

As a lot of you know, we are dog people. Sabre is not just a pet, but a member of the family. We even have two of his half siblings in our family, as well. He is a happy, high-energy guy who loves to do a list of impressive tricks and absolutely loves to cuddle! Right now, his mom and dad and cat "brothers" are missing him a lot and ready for him to come home... we are yet to know when that will be possible.

Any contribution to help Sabre and his family is immensely appreciated. Our hearts are deeply touched by those who have reached out so far with encouraging words and care during this difficult time.

Much Love & Thanks!!

From Sabre's Aunties

I hate to post this devastating photo, but it demonstrates the severity of this attack. I hope that it strongly encourages dog owners everywhere to be proactive in keeping control of their dogs and preventing any harm.
