Veronica and Hazel Medical Fund

This beautiful mama has been handed a lot within the last month. The night she came home after delivering her now 6 week old, she started devoloping trouble breathing. After going to the ER they found that she has pulmonary embolisms in both lungs. They said that if she hadn't have got to the hospital by the time she did that she might not have still been here. Unfortunately they found more than just the pulmonary embolisms, while scanning her heart they found that she had something completely unrelated to her pulmonary embolisms. Thanksgiving day her cardiologist came to her bedside and said, "I never like telling a new mom that she can't have anymore kids." He continued on to tell her that she has something called mitral valve regurgitation and that she needed to begin preparing for open heart surgery in two weeks, as well as making sure her "will, power of attourney, and finances were in order 'just in case'". All of this going on with the stress and sleepless nights of having a newborn and trying to be the best mama to her newborn and four year old. As a mama, my heart broke for Veronica that all of this was hitting at once. The following week they put a camera about 16 inches down her throat to get a better look at her heart and they found that thankfully the leak wasn't as bad as they thought and that they wouldn't need to immediately do surgery but that they'd watch her very closely. Through all of this Veronica has remained upbeat, strong, and supermom! Despite all of these trials.

But now my mama heart aches with hers even more. A couple days after Christmas came, they learned that their four year old daughter has leukemia. They had to hear the words every parent fears, "Your child has cancer." She wrote, "We are living my worst nightmare. How do you tell your four year old that she has cancer, that her beautiful long hair will fall out in two weeks, that she will be in the hospital for a long time, that she can't go back to school, that she can't be around other kids, that she will be on chemo for three years, and that throwing up will be her new 'normal'? Our sweet Hazel has been diagnosed with Leukemia. Please pray for our little girl. We have a very long road ahead of us. Hazel is strong, she is brave, and she will beat this. She is my hero."

I personally have been sobbing ever since reading this. How can so much happen to this poor family in just 6 weeks. I'm heartbroken. They are fighters, but they need help. The last thing they need to worry about is the financial strain of all the medical procedures they both have gone through, and will be going through. All they need to worry about is being there for each other.

I went to high school with Veronica and have stayed connected through social media. After posting about her story on my social media I had many people ask if there was a gofundme set up for her and Hazel, since there wasn't I was asked by people wanting to help to get one set up.
