FIRST PHASE: When the North courts at Pocahontas Park were built, they were installed on top of asphalt. Multiple patching of the cracks, holes, and sunken areas have proved a temporary fix; what is needed is a total renovation. All of the asphalt and concrete needs to be removed and a new surface installed.
The complete renovation of the north courts will cost $109,750 (this phase is fully funded and construction begins May 2020) Thank you all!
SECOND PHASE: We would like to resurface the South Courts and add fencing between the courts on the south to prevent balls flying or rolling between courts. This would provide uniformity and functionality to all the courts. Additionally, we want to take the 9 foot fence between the north and south courts down to four feet and have a walk-through with a four foot gate between the courts. And, we will replace all perimeter fencing
The complete renovation for the south courts will cost $40,250 (this phase is fully funded and construction begins May 2020) Thank you all!
THIRD PHASE: And lastly, we wish to install lights to allow for night time play.
The cost of installing lights for six courts will cost $68,000
The entire project will cost approximately $218,000
Pickleball University Inc. leases the courts we play on from the City. Since the city does not have funds available, our plan is to fund this three-phase project with donations from our members and friends and support from the business community. We will also pursue all available grants. To be a good steward of the funds raised, we will be asking the City for a long- term lease for Pickleball University Inc.
This is a rare opportunity to make such an impact in your hometown and area. We believe in this project so much that Pickleball University Inc. will match up to $45,000 in donated funds.
As Pickleball University Inc. leases the courts to play on from the City, this endeavor benefits not only the City of Vero Beach, but also the general public. Pickleball University Inc. is a non profit (501c-7) organization so we are unable to offer your donations as tax deductible.

How does Pickleball effect businesses in the local Vero area? Pocahontas Park and Pickleball is a destination, and the City of Vero is the beneficiary. With having 480 plus members and growing, these members patronize restaurants, grocery stores, gas, banks, retail stores and businesses that provide specialized services.
In addition, once a month, we hold a Happy Hour at different locations. With up to 80 members participating, each location gets great exposure, for future visits by members. Finally we hold tournaments bringing in an additional 400 players from 6 states and all over Florida for several days at a time. A photo of a previously patched north court shows that we need total reconstruction. Patching has failed.
This short interview with Kyle Yates was recorded on March 17, 2019 at our Gamma Vero Beach Centennial Tournament. The tournament was held on the Pocahontas Park courts and attracted well over 400 participants and, as Kyle noted, a sizable number of spectators.
Kyle is a multiple-time National Champion and picked up the sport while still in high school in Fort Myers, Florida.
Listen to how he describes our freshly patched courts and how it adversely effects play. Kyle also speaks to the need for fencing between courts on the south side. Our plan includes adding those fences during the second phase of our project.
