Verace St. John / Hurricane Irma

Dear friends,

Given the limited national news coverage, many of you may not be aware of how devastating hurricane Irma was to St. John, USVI. The island suffered the most severe blow by Irma. Yet pretty much all we see on the news is focused on Florida, the Keys and as well, Texas from hurricane Harvey

My name is John Kennedy, I reside in MA. I’m one of Verace’s many jewelry designers and I’m personally reaching out to all of you for your support for my dear friend and colleague of more than 30 years, Kimberly Jackson, owner of Verace St. John.

Verace, the only source of her income is closed due to the storm damage and will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time. The entire power grid is down and they expect it will be many, many months before it is up and running again. There is no internet, and very limited cell coverage as well.

Unlike a visitor to St. John on holiday, Kim was not able to leave everything and evacuate before the storm. Having a business there with valuable merchandise from many US jewelry designers she chose to stay in an effort to protect her's and their property. Fortunately, better late than never, our government has finally recognized the needs of all of the citizens on St. John and recently sent Marines and the National Guard in for support.

Whatever donation you can make, however big or small will be greatly appreciated. A separate account for Kim Jackson is being set up and 100% of any and all donations will go directly to her. All donation records will be available to anyone who would like to view them.

Garlon Jackson, Kim’s father is the beneficiary of the donations raised. He will be direct depositing the funds to Kim as soon as it’s possible. The donations will be used for food, water, housing, etc., immediately. And as well, to get Kim back stateside and eventually to help reopen Verace.

Thank you for your kind and generous support-
