Vera - Swiss freediver at the World Championship

Hi, my name is Vera Giampietro, and I'm fundraising to attend the Freediving World Championship in Kas, Turkey, in October 2022.

Freediving (or apnea) is a unique sport where you dive deep on a single breath, and I am very good at it!

In 2020, I ranked 3rd overall worldwide. Last year, I ranked 6th overall at my first World Championship. In addition, I broke 13 National Records for Switzerland.

This year, for the second time in a row, I qualified to represent my country at the World Championship, and this is an opportunity I don't want to miss!

I have been saving as much money as I could, but training and working full-time are two things that are not compatible in this discipline. It's too demanding, and if I am not well rested or stressed, I won't be able to focus on diving to make it safe and reach my full potential. Therefore, I will spend a month in Turkey before the competition to train and prepare. To afford this period, I need all the help I can find.

You may wonder, a girl from such a rich country is probably receiving some help to attend prestigious international competitions... Well, it's not the case at all. Unfortunately, even though I have been the number one female athlete in my country since 2020, I don't receive any support from Switzerland simply because my sport doesn't appear in a particular list. This paperwork problem also prevented me from winning the otherwise well-deserved Athlete of the year prize in 2020... We are working on it with the Federation, but it seems complicated.
