Venkatesh Ragahavan was a doting father, loving husband, dutiful son, and always-ready-to-help friend and colleague. He was been a longtime resident of New Jersey, worked at Marlabs for 15 + years and was an active participant in New Jersey cricket community.
He passed away on June 16th after being admitted to hospital for Liver and Kidney conditions. He leaves behind his wife Chitra and son Hari (14 years). His death has shocked many folks in newjersey. He was known to many of his friends as a very down to earth, happy go lucky person, who was interested in helping folks. Lot of folks have wonderful memories of him at office, cricket games and at social gatherings.
Venkatesh lost his job last december and fell on hard times. As they say, troubles don’t come alone. Several health issues followed, precipitated by the job loss. A chronic diabetic, his symptoms deteriorated and led to serious kidney problems. It all went downhill rapidly. Venkatesh was admitted to Newark University Hospital three weeks back. Despite the excellent care, his condition quickly deteriorated. His family is left with the huge hospital bills, and having to pick up the pieces of their lives. Hari, his son, is a brilliant eighth grader and a school topper, who has a bright future ahead of him. Chitra, his wife, has the immense responsibility of stepping up and managing the household. All this has been doubly tough on her. She lost her mother just a week back but was not able to travel to India to attend her mother’s funeral as she needed to be at her husband’s side.
His passion for cricket and love for all who knew him, and phenomenal mix of intellect and humor made this sudden loss very disheartening. He helped in bringing players and umpires closer during games and helped folks who are in need. He umpired more than 150 games over a period of 15 years and has been one of the primary umpires during high profile games.
Venkatesh was the primary source of income for his family, this fundraiser has been set up to benefit his family to get past this crushing setback and help them in creating a bright future for his son. Folks in New Jersey can reach out to the family directly.
