Hello all, it’s Brittany Binnewies! I recently finished up my fourth and final semester at Columbia Community College in Sonora, CA. I received my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts with an emphasis in social and behavioral sciences. These past two years at Columbia have flown by, filled with ups and downs, countless new experiences, and friendships. Above all I have found my true identity in Christ Jesus, which brings me to the reason for this letter.
Next year, instead of transferring directly to a university I have decided that I will be taking a year off from the college scene and participate in Youth With A Mission (YWAM). For as long as I can remember, I have always loved to be around young children. Whether it be my own siblings, their friends, or kids I have babysat. I knew all along that I would end up doing something with children, although I could never make up my mind about a specific profession. Well, I think God has shown me how to take the first step to follow my passion and share my love for children. This first step is through YWAM Las Vegas, which is specifically focused on orphan care.
My trip will start September 14, at the Orphan Care Discipleship Training School (DTS) located in Las Vegas. The DTS is a challenging and intensive three month course where I will grow spiritually and mentally so that I am equipped with the skills to help children in need, and to share the love of God. My time in Las Vegas will also include local outreaches to the surrounding communities.
The second phase of my Discipleship Training School, is the outreach phase. This is where I will have the opportunity to “go and make disciples”(Matthew 28:19), and to put my knowledge from the first part of DTS to work. My team and I will partner with Christian organizations in an international setting as they advance the Christian Orphan Care Movement caring for millions of orphaned children worldwide. Currently, our outreach location is TBA, but in the past they have gone to Central America, India, Nepal and Africa.
I would like to invite you to embark on this adventure with me, and support me in whatever way you desire. More than anything I would appreciate your prayers. Please pray for us as we are preparing, while in Las Vegas, while we are out of the country, and when we return home.
I have been praying that some of you will be able to support me financially as well as emotionally and spiritually. Listed below are the costs of the entire five month trip. Lecture funds are due when I arrive on September 14, and outreach fees are due by the end of the fourth week of the school. If you decide you are able to support me financially, checks should be made out to YWAM. Please, do not write anything in the memo of the check but rather include a note in the memo stating that the money is for me. Online payments can be made by credit card or through paypal. This summer I will be saving up money by working at Hume Lake Christian Camp. I have been honored to be offered a position as a High Adventure Course Guide. It is a blessing to get to spend my summer advancing the Kingdom in such a gorgeous place.
Thank you for all the support you have provided me with throughout the years. You have helped shaped me into the young woman I am today.
