Vegas First Responder Mental Health
On 10/1/2017 hundreds of first responders from dozens of agencies responded to the horrific incident on the Las Vegas strip. Over the coming days, months, and years many will experience the effects of trauma and stress and will need specialized support and assistance.
Under current Nevada Worker's Comp laws many of the first responders involved will not be eligible to coverage, leaving them to rely on their regular health insurance which may have expensive co-pays and high deductibles. First responders who were at work are normally not considered victims of the event, and are not eligible to receive assistance from victim assistance funds.
Code Green is creating a fund specifically for first responders who responded to the Las Vegas mass shooting incident and assisted in its aftermath. Code Green has set aside $1000 for immediate needs but that will not last long, especially if any responders need inpatient treatment. Please help us ensure that all first responders involved will be able to get the treatment they need without being concerned about the financial impact.
All funds raised will be earmarked for those responders and their agencies for 5 years, at which time any remaining funds will be released to our general treatment scholarship fund. Code Green is also working to reach out to the managers of agencies involved to determine what we can do to help and support them.
