This seemed like an easy route to go because several people have asked about it.
My name is Ashley Bartholomew (Harvey) and I'm from Vidor, Texas. I graduated from Vidor High school in 2003. My mom, dad, 3 brothers (2 handicapped), and grandparents all live in Vidor and have lost everything from Hurricane Harvey flooding.
My immediate family was able to nearly escape the flooding in Vidor, Texas and the water is STILL RISING. The National guard arrived and told them they had 15 minutes to leave, as another 8 feet of water was expected to come in from a dam being opened, water rushing in. Thankfully they are alive and were able to make it here to Arkansas.
It's difficult to ask for help, because I have always done things on my own with as little help as possible, that's just how my family is. But the needs now are great. They lost EVERYTHING. Yes they have homeowners insurance, but not flood insurance. It should have never flooded there. For perspective that area received more the THREE YEARS of rain in less that 72 hours.
They are working folks, and also have a home business that is completely ruined now too. Emergency assistance is slow and we are trying to utilize all the resources available to them.
2 of my adult brothers are severely mentally handicapped/special needs. For example on the emergency assistance being slow, yesterday we had to bring both of them to urgent care and pay out of pocket to be seen only so we could refill prescriptions they needed. The prescriptions and family doctor are both at local Vidor businesses and are underwater. They have state insurance but it doesn't work in Arkansas. So out of pocket for prescriptions too. Maybe I'll get reimbursed, I'm not sure and I don't care but I'm telling you guys so people understand. ❤️
We are trying to rent a home on base here in Little Rock for my entire family to stay in (5 adults) as temporary lodging options are non existent or extremely expensive. It's $1259 a month and a 3 month lease. My brothers need stability and we need to be able to help my mom and step dad with them during this time, so this is the best option.
This home is unfurnished. We will use this money exclusively for: Lorraine and Stuart Pierce and Tom and Matt Harvey. Money will be used to for living expenses of setting up a new home and purchasing household goods such as clothing, toiletries, linens, and appliances.
I'm trying to help an anyway I can, so any ideas I'm open to. Thank you to everyone who has offered to help, prayed, sent texts, messaged, called, etc. I apologize if I haven't replied I've been really busy figuring out a lot of logistics! ❤️❤️
