Danitza's Road to Recovery

My sister Danitza is 22 years old and just graduated from college with her Bachelors. She was planning to attend graduate school in the Fall. She was accepted to every graduate school she applied to, to name a few Northeastern, Suffolk, Brandeis and UMass Boston. This past school year, she worked as a Paraprofessional in Boston Public Schools at the Taylor School in Mattpan and was going to start at the Umana in East Boston in September. She also worked part time as a security guard at Children's Hospital in Boston. Danitza is a hardworker with a bright future.

Unfortunately, my sister was hit by a truck on July 20th as she left her boyfriend's house (Edwin Mendez).  http://boston.cbslocal.com/2017/07/20/woman-hit-by-truck-huntington-avenue-mission-hill-boston/  She was taken to Brigham and Women's Hospital with life-threatening injurgies. The doctors gave her a 2% chance of survival but she has beat those odds. She is now expected to recover. Only time will tell how soon she will recover but she has a long recovery ahead of her. She has a severe brain injury, lung contusion, spinal fracture and broken femur (leg). She will need many more surgeries but the doctors have to wait until the swelling goes down.  In the meantime, Danitza is sedated and in the ICU.  She is still in critical condition but stable. We will not know the extent of her brain injury until she wakes up which will not happen until a few days after her spine is repaired.

If you know Danitza, you know that she is a hardworker that works full time and attended school full time. I would like to raise this money to help Danitza pay her bills while she recovers and not burden my parents with her expenses as they already have extra expenses due to this accident. No donation is too small. Danitza has $28,000 in school loans, car insurance, cell phone and credit cards bills.  My family is hopeful that insurance will cover her medical bills but we don't really know.  We might need this fund to cover unpaid medical bills and expenses related to her recovery. Please consider making a donation to help Danitza have a brighter future. If we surpass our goal, this will provide support for Danitza to pay for graduate school.

We are hopeful and have faith that Danitza will make a full recovery. She just needs time to heal! I will try to post updates on her recovery, so check back on this link. We will only post the positive improvements, not her set backs. Be patient! Please don't overwhelmed my parents (Danny Acevedo and Rosa Melendez) or me asking for updates because this has been very hard on us and we are trying to cope as best as we can. This past week, Danitza suffered a small seizure and had a small procedure done to avoid blood clots reaching her heart and lungs. Visits have become limited to only immediate family. Please continue to pray for a full recovery.

Thank you!
