My grandma, Mary Morgan - 83, does not qualify for Medicaid and cannot afford to pay for the facility.
She was walking and living independently. She was born with a handicap - Hip Dysplasia and Shorter Leg Syndrome. The non-surgical treatment is exercise and physical therapy, which she has been doing for her whole life. During the Texas Winter Storm (Feb2021) her power went out. She had two choices: to stay and freeze to death in 1 degree temperature or to evacuate to the hospital. She went to the hospital on Feb. 18, and that's when her treatment stopped.
She was accepted into Hospice but she cannot afford to pay for a facility where she can receive the care she needs. She also does not qualify for Medicaid. We have zero options. We can't even afford to get in home care beyond what her insurance does cover.
The situation is urgent because she is suffering. She was walking and independent . . . and now she's bedridden and in hospice. This situation happened so sudden and fast that she's having a hard time understanding. And her handicap causes pain that increases each day. She was also diagnosed with dementia. And the drugs they put her on have created more problems.
Explains What The Money Will Be Used For
I don't know what the right thing to do is. A home nurse or a facility.
If she stays home, she needs a Nurse Aid who is trained to deal with her incontinence care and physical handicap. And her crazy behavior.
Or we can send her to a facility. Seems harsh, but it might be the right option. She's already in pretty bad shape and exhibits crazy behavior that we're just not qualified to deal with.
We can't even change her or clean her because she wont let us. When we try, she begins acting crazy. I know my grandma is nobody to the people reading this, but I don't want her to be uncomfortable or in pain. We all have a grandparent or some other family member who we would want to make more comfortable in their last days.
I want to thank everyone who has been praying. We’ve had neighbor’s stop by and other people telling us how they’re praying. I know that God and all the prayers are what’s getting us through this.
Please do what your heart tells you and know that my grandma and my family are using GoFundMe as a last ditch effort. Bless you and thank you.
