Four weeks volunteering in South Africa :)

" Be the Change you want to see in the World"

This November I'm heading to the outskirts of Cape Town, South Africa to volunteer my time for four weeks working with underprivileged children.  The program is ran through IVHQ and involves teaching the children how to surf and do other sporting activities in efforts to help keep them off the streets and promote a healthy lifestyle. I also will have the opportunity to spend some of my time helping out in the school teaching and/or in the childcare center.

After being offered a job teaching ESL in Jakarta, Indonesia, I decided to postpone my start until the new year so I could volunteer in Africa.  It has been a dream of mine for quite some time to go to another country and better the lives of disadvantaged children.  Unfortunately, being in school and having expenses/loans has forced me to put this idea on hold. After recently graduating, I worked this summer and decided to use my savings towards the volunteering fees and flight to Cape Town. With that said, IVHQ has set me up with this amazing website to help fundraise my trip and efforts to make a difference to the South African children. I know it's not the best time financially for a lot of people, but anything you have to give (even a few dollars) will not go unnoticed.  As I learned after training for the SF marathon and raising over $4000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society, even the smallest donations count and anything is possible with a little help from a lot of people. My goal is to reach $3000, all of which will go directly towards my project and to necessities ( pencils, toothbrushes, clothing, ect) for the children of South Africa.  Anything you have to give will be greatly appreciate not just by me, but most importantly by the children who need it most. It's so easy to get caught up with our lives and forget how fortunate we are for all we have. Even just a few dollars will make all the differences. I understand not everyone can help out financially, but even your moral support will mean the world :)

Check out the site explaining the project more and this short video on IVHQ and the surf outreach project ! :)

I couldn't do it without you. Thanks so much for your help and support, it means the world :).
