Let’s put an end to Mosquitos

Mosquitos are annoying, constantly buzzing and itching during the summer months, pests, as most would define them. However, for many others, they are much more than pests; they are life-threatening. Mosquitos are one of the deadliest animals in the world. These insects transmit some of the deadliest diseases known to man all across the globe i.e., Malaria, Dengue Fever, Yellow Fever, Chikungunya, and Zika Virus. Over ½ the world’s population is at risk of contracting one of these deadly diseases. More than 3.9 billion people in over 128 countries are at risk of contracting dengue, with 96 million cases estimated per year. Most of these diseases are transmitted by one mosquito: the Aedes Aegypti

There are hundreds of products out there that are fighting against the deadly mosquito. Philanthropists, foundations, and governments are spending billions each year trying to find a way to stop the spread of these diseases. We are Vaylenx and we are joining that fight.

Our Mission

Our mission is to create an environmentally friendly larvicide to slow the spread of mosquito-borne diseases all over the world. We kill mosquitos while vowing to do no harm to other organisms. We are constantly searching for ways to save lives in the most straightforward and sustainable way possible, making the world a better place through unconventional stewardship.

Vaylenx has identified a way, utilizing natural products and old repellent methods combined with modern day technology and synthesis, to kill mosquitoes safely. Our pilot product CNP-1(c) is an effective, efficient and targeted larvicide, that can be deployed in any natural body of water. Unlike the majority of pesticides, today CNP-1(c) has been tested and shown no ill-effects toward any other living organisms, other than the mosquito.

Our Story

From humble beginnings in Athens, Ohio the four of us, as students identified a way to tackle a problem as old as humanity itself. Morgan, David, Kate and myself (Noah) entered into a university competition to try and identify a creative solution to Guyana’s mosquito problem.

After winning the competition, we were able to travel down to Guyana and witness first hand the toll and effect the mosquitoes and the diseases they carry have on the people of Guyana. Since then we have been on an atypical journey, even for startup entrepreneurs.

Last summer, after a successful initial crowdfunding campaign, winning the EIX and TCU Values & Ventures business competitions and receiving donations, we, as Vaylenx had enough funding to fund early business costs and run Phase I of research - test to see if CNP-1(c) actually killed mosquitoes.

The research team, led by a researcher at a top research university confirmed, after 3-months of testing, that CNP-1(c) does, in fact, kill the mosquito. Working with the research team and the university, we have been able to identify a grant that will aid in funding our research. This is enough research to pull our product through Phase II. Our team will be able to identify the Mode of Action, or how CNP-1(c) is actually killing the mosquito, extend the longevity of activation, test chronic and acute toxicity, and test effectiveness against pyrethroid-resistant mosquitoes. Pyrethroid-resistant mosquitoes are mosquitoes that are currently immune to the “big gun” pesticides used commercially today, think DDT.

Our Ask

This is where YOU come in. In order to secure this grant and our next round of research, we need $12,000. The grant applied for, requires a matched amount of funds on Vaylenx’s part of $24,000. We are still short $12,000. We need YOUR help to get us to fill the gap so we can continue down our promising path. This next 12 months of research is critical and could lead to amazing discoveries for Vaylenx and the greater mosquito control community. We hope to raise $12,000 with this campaign so we can pay for the next 12 months of funding, and use that time to pitch toward investors for our initial Seed round of funding in order to cover the business expenses and continuation of research.

With YOUR help we can develop a product that is environmentally-friendly, effective, long lasting, natural, safe, and targeted toward pyrethroid-resistant mosquitoes.
