Vashon Theatre_Go Eileen!

People on Vashon love the very special place where they go to see movies, visit with friends in the popcorn line and glance, out of the corner of their eyes, for the thousandth time, the somewhat creepy murals on both sides of the screen. Eileen Wolcott and her husband, Gordon, have fought so hard, during the time they've owned Vashon Theatre, to improve it and make it financially viable. That is no small task, in the very difficult business of film exhibition. Especially right now, during this time of social distancing and isolation, when their main revenue stream is entirely gone. 

Vashon residents have been so generous to this point, buying gift certificates, books of tickets, or simply donating cash. The Wolcotts are humbled and so grateful for the help that has been offered already. Your generosity has already helped. I wish it wasn't so, but we need to do more. This GoFundMe campaign seeks to raise $10,000, which will enable them to pay their bills and the few remaining staff members until the day, probably in mid to late July, when they'll finally be able to open their doors and have money coming in again. 

Eileen needs our help.  Over the years, she has used her wits to find ways the theater can make more money, beyond feature films. She has hosted film festivals and streamed opera and ballet. But virtually all those dollars have evaporated, along money that would ordinarily be made hosting movies. Right now, Vashon Theatre is totally reliant on our goodwill and financial help. Eileen has no other way to build a bridge to the day when she will sit in the ticket booth and take our money. Together, we can build that bridge.
