Long Description
My name is Shanzeh Aslam, I am a Pakistani-American and niece of Hadiqa Kiani. I am working to collect funds for my aunt who has been on the ground tirelessly working for the plea of victims of the climate change induced floods in Pakistan this year. I have joined my aunt who has been actively putting her funds first, collecting and distributing supplies and is now on a mission to rebuild the flood impacted regions of Pakistan with sustainable homes for families - homes that will Inshallah last for years to come.

If you are unfamiliar with the tragedy facing Pakistan at the moment, according to the CSIS, Pakistan is facing the “most widespread flooding in the 73-year history of Pakistan” that “has left one-third of the country underwater and parts resembling “a small ocean.” The floods have impacted over 4.2 million people; almost 1,400 people have died, including 458 children, more than 1,600 are injured, and half a million are displaced."

While large organizations and NGOs are caught in red tape or unable to provide physical support due to a litany of reasons, Hadiqa Kiani has been able to send truck loads of supplies to the flood impacted regions of Balochistan and South Punjab. My aunt is a resilient woman and despite just using her own network, she has been able to send flood victims tents, medicine, women’s sanitary items, food, water and other basic necessities. Her next step, and perhaps the most daunting step is to start to build sustainable housing for flood victims. Housing that is stronger than ever built before in these regions.

To scale her operations, she has adopted three villages in Balochistan and South Punjab for donation drop offs. However, the first village where she aims to build the homes from this initial fundraiser is in Tehsil, the Tamboo district in Nasirabad, Balochistan. She has found contractors and suppliers capable of building these homes and who, as kind and generous Pakistanis, have graciously lifted the majority of their fees to aid their fellow countrymen. However, there is still a cost associated with labor, supplies and construction of these homes and that is where we need your help.

The Pakistani rupee has been hitting historic lows in 2021 and 2022. One US Dollar equals 235 Pakistani rupees at the time of writing this. Although Pakistanis are donating their hard earned money in a climate plagued by natural catastrophes and unprecedented inflation, we need the help of overseas Pakistanis and of our friends abroad to aid in this process to rebuild these homes.

Our current goal is to start with 200 homes. At the current rate, we will need a little over $200,000 USD to complete the construction of these homes. The contractor has given us the deadline of end of November for the full payment for these homes. If, by the grace of Allah (SWT), we are able to collect more funds, we will continue construction with more houses as funds allow. 100% of the funds collected will be used for construction of these homes. We will provide routine updates of progress here and on Hadiqa Kiani’s social media channels, including costs being allocated to each home.

If we begin construction int he first week of October, 100 homes will be completed by December 2022. If you are able to provide even more help by connecting us with contractors or developers based in Pakistan who can scale operations even further, please email us at [email redacted]. Your donation will save lives, please donate within your means and pray for the success of these homes. We need to do our small part in rebuilding our beautiful country. We cannot wait for governments or large international organizations, we can’t rely on the millions in foreign aid, we need to start here. We need to start now.
