<div>Wij hebben jullie hulp nodig, hoe moeilijk wij dit ook vinden om te vragen. Wij zamelen geld in om Femke haar leven weer terug te krijgen door middel van een open buik operatie. Wij willen graag weer een dragelijker leven voor Femke, eentje waarin ze volop kan genieten en een beetje leven zoals een normale 21 jarige. Dat ze weer genoeg energie heeft om een studie te starten en weer volop kan genieten.

<div><strong>Femke haar verhaal</strong>
</div>
<div>Femke is 21 jaar oud en is een spontaan, lief meisje. Sinds 2019 is ze ziek geworden, tot 2021 heeft ze haar leven wel aangepast, maar nog redelijk normaal kunnen leiden. Vanaf 2021 zijn de klachten van buikpijn, misselijkheid, niet kunnen eten en extreme vermoeiheid begonnen. Na een heel traject is in 2022 de diagnose gastroparese gesteld en is ze sindsdien volledig afhankelijk van sondevoeding rechtstreeks in haar darmen. Toch bleven meerdere klachten en viel ze vaker erg veel af. Meerdere keren in het ziekenhuis beland en eind vorig jaar ging het bijna mis, zo verzwakt en geen sondevoeding meer verdragen. Sindsdien zijn we verder aan het zoeken, maar in Nederland kwamen we niet verder. Na dit jaar weer een opname van een maand is ze volledig afhankelijk geworden van tpv, dit is voeding via de bloedbaan, helaas zitten hier heel veel risico’s aan, maar dit heeft haar leven gered.

<div>We zijn verder gaan zoeken, aangezien de kwaliteit van leven steeds meer achteruit ging en ze klachten bleef houden waaronder dagelijks pijn. Ze kan niet naar school, niet werken en haar sociale leven staat ook zo goed als stil. Ondanks alles geeft ze niet op, ze blijft de lichtpuntjes in het leven zien en is een doorzetter.

<div><strong>Vasculaire compressiesyndromen</strong>
</div>
<div>Hierdoor zijn we terecht gekomen bij een arts in Malaga, welke gespecialiseerd is in compressiesyndromen. We zijn begin juli naar Malaga gevlogen en daar heeft Femke meerdere onderzoeken gehad. We hebben eindelijk duidelijk wat haar klachten veroorzaakt! Femke heeft op meerdere plekken in haar buik afgeknelde aders die haar maag, darmen en nieren van bloed voorzien. Dit is een compressie, hierdoor kan ze niet eten, heeft ze veel pijn, is erg misselijk en erg vermoeid. Daarnaast heeft Femke ook het hypermobiele ehlers danlos syndroom, dit is een erfelijke bindweefselaandoening. Bindweefsel houdt alles in je lichaam op zijn plek, bij het ehlers danlos syndroom is dit bindweefsel te zwak. Dit is waarschijnlijk ook de oorzaak van de vasculaire compressies.

<div><strong>Waarom in het buitenland?</strong>
</div>
<div>Helaas is er in Nederland niet voldoende kennis en expertise om deze vasculaire compressies te behandelen. Om deze reden vergoedt de verzekering het niet en moeten wij het dus zelf bekostigen. Vandaar onze vraag om hulp!

<div>De totale kosten komen uit op: 117.777
</div>
<div>Dit bestaat uit:
</div>
<div>- onderzoeken vooraf, de operatie, opname op de IC en normale afdeling: 90.000
</div>
<div>- Totale reis- en verblijfskosten in Malaga voor Femke en wij als mantelzorgers: 15.000
</div>
<div>- Eventuele onverwachte kosten zijn geschat op: 10.000
</div>

<div>De opname is ongeveer een maand, hierna moeten we nog blijven voor nacontroles en om wat aan te sterken.

<div>Alles wat gedoneerd wordt gaat rechtstreeks naar de medische rekening en wordt alleen gebruikt voor medische kosten van Femke.
</div>

<div>Wij zijn ontzettend dankbaar met elke donatie, hoe klein ook, alle beetjes helpen! Elke donatie is een stapje dichter bij een dragelijker leven voor Femke. Ook kunnen jullie ons enorm helpen door het verhaal verder te delen.

<div>Voor het eerst in lange tijd durft Femke weer te hopen, hoop op een dragelijker leven, zonder pijn, zonder tpv.

<div><strong>De operatie</strong>
</div>
<div>De week voor de operatie wordt Femke al opgenomen in het ziekenhuis voor nog onderzoeken en om aan te sterken.
</div>
<div>Tijdens de operatie worden de vasculaire compressies aangepakt. Dit wordt een open buik operatie hierin wordt het volgende uitgevoerd:
</div>
<div>- verhelpen van Mals en Wilkie syndroom ( Smas )
</div>
<div>- Autotransplantatie van de nier voor de Nutcracker
</div>
<div>- Gpoem voor de gastroparese
</div>
<div>- Blindedarm verwijdering
</div>
<div>- Beide sondes worden verwijderd en opnieuw geplaatst.

<div>Het is een hele heftige operatie en het herstel zal ook maanden duren, maar wij hebben hoop!
</div>

<div>Wij hebben hoop dat Femke van de tpv af komt, de sondevoeding weer via haar darm kan verdragen, minder pijn heeft, meer energie heeft en wie weet zelfs iets kleins kunnen eten of drinken. Ze zal altijd ziek blijven, maar we hopen op een dragelijker leven.

<div>Als wij iets hebben geleerd de afgelopen jaren is dat je altijd hoop moet blijven houden, dus bij deze wij hebben hoop, hoe lastig het soms ook is. Jullie hulp geeft ons hoop!

<div>We need your help, no matter how difficult it is for us to ask. We are raising money to help Femke get her life back through an open abdominal surgery. We want to give Femke a more bearable life again — one where she can enjoy things fully and live like a normal 21-year-old. One where she has enough energy to start studying and can truly enjoy life again.

<div><strong>Femke's Story</strong>
</div>
<div>Femke is 21 years old — a spontaneous and sweet young woman. She became ill in 2019. Until 2021, she adjusted her life but could still live relatively normally. From 2021 onward, her symptoms worsened: abdominal pain, nausea, an inability to eat, and extreme fatigue. After a long medical journey, she was diagnosed with gastroparesis in 2022, and since then, she has been fully dependent on tube feeding directly into her intestines.

<div>Despite this, her symptoms continued, and she began to lose significant weight again. She was hospitalized several times, and at the end of last year, things nearly went fatally wrong — she became severely weakened and could no longer tolerate the tube feeding. Since then, we’ve continued searching for answers, but in the Netherlands, we reached a dead end.
</div>

<div>After yet another hospital stay this year — lasting a full month — Femke became fully dependent on TPN (total parenteral nutrition), which is feeding through the bloodstream. Unfortunately, this comes with many risks, but it saved her life.
</div>

</div>
<div>Because her quality of life was still declining, and the pain remained constant, we continued our search. She can't go to school, she can’t work, and her social life has come to a complete halt. Despite everything, Femke doesn't give up. She keeps seeing the light in the darkness and continues to fight.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Vascular Compression Syndromes</strong>
</div>
<div>This search led us to a doctor in Málaga, Spain, who specializes in vascular compression syndromes. We flew there in early July, and Femke underwent several tests. We finally got clarity on what’s causing her symptoms!
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>Femke has multiple compressed blood vessels in her abdomen — these vessels supply blood to her stomach, intestines, and kidneys. Because of these compressions, she can’t eat, experiences constant pain, severe nausea, and exhaustion.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div>In addition, Femke has hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) — a hereditary connective tissue disorder. Connective tissue holds everything in your body together, and with EDS, this tissue is too weak. This is likely the underlying cause of the vascular compressions.
</div>
<div><br />
</div>
<div><strong>Why abroad?</strong>
</div>
<div>Sadly, in the Netherlands there isn’t enough expertise to treat these vascular compressions. For this reason, the surgery is not covered by insurance, and we have to fund it ourselves. That’s why we’re asking for your help!

<div>Total cost: €117,777
</div>
<div>This includes:

<div>Pre-operative tests, the surgery, ICU stay, and recovery on a regular ward: €90,000

<div>Travel and accommodation for Femke and us as caregivers in Málaga: €15,000
</div>

<div>Femke will be hospitalized for about a month. After that, we’ll need to stay for follow-up appointments and recovery.

<div>All donations go directly to the medical account and will be used only for Femke’s medical expenses.

<div><strong>The Surgery</strong>
</div>
<div>The week before the operation, Femke will already be admitted for further testing and to regain strength.
</div>
<div>During the open abdominal surgery, the vascular compressions will be addressed. The procedure will include:

<div>Repairing MALS and Wilkie’s syndrome (SMAS)
</div>
<div>Autotransplantation of the kidney for Nutcracker syndrome
</div>
<div>G-POEM procedure for gastroparesis
</div>
<div>Appendix removal
</div>
<div>Removal and re-placement of both feeding tubes
</div>
<div>It is a very intense surgery, and recovery will take months — but we have hope!
</div>

<div>We hope Femke can come off TPN, tolerate tube feeding through her intestines again, experience less pain, regain energy, and maybe even eat or drink small amounts again. She will always be chronically ill, but we hope for a better quality of life.
</div>

<div>If we’ve learned anything in the past few years, it’s that you must never lose hope.
</div>
