"Help fund my Artist Residency in India"

Donation protected
I was recently accepted to a selective artist residency program in Ahmedabad, India. While in India, I hope to explore skin color and how it relates to the concept of varna. Varna means to cover or to envelope in Sanskrit. It comes from the Rig Veda, an ancient text from India. Varna is the basis of the Hindu caste system.

It is evident to me from my travels that hierarchy based on skin color exists all over the world. Skin color becomes the de facto caste system. This is a global phenomenon that needs to be exposed and addressed.

During my residency, I will create a body of work to explore the skin color of select groups within the communities of India. These works will be part of an exhibition in India in 2014.

To this end, I seek to raise $3,000 from my supporters before November 5th to allow me to create this body of work during my time in India. This amount will subsidize a portion of my expenses, including travel, materials, and an assistant to help me research.

You can visit my website here to see my art work and read more about my career as an artist.
