Van Ginkel Memorial Fund

Donation protected
We are raising memorial funds for Peter Van Ginkel, beloved husband, father and grandfather, who we lost on 4.7.18 due to a tragic car accident. Please assist in our efforts to help raise funds for the family through their difficult journey ahead.

For many of you who know my family, you know that we are a fiery, wild bunch filled with fun and love. Our father's outgoing fun and our mother's nurturing love have been instilled in us boys, and hopefully spread to our friends and family. You may also know that this year our family had been beaten down by life. this year we have lost our nephew Patrick, grandfather Don, and most recently our father Pete in a sudden car accident.

We have never been a family of great monetary wealth, yet my parents have always found a way to pay our bills, feed us, and support our family. My mother Lori has worked many jobs in her time. She has taught dance to her young students (which she called her daughters). She teaches children's choir and choreographs performances at Purpose church. She is also a nurse at the local elementary school in Upland. Sometimes working all three jobs at one time. If you ask her she will tell you she is blessed to get to spend her time with children and I believe this to be true. The reality is, raising 5 children, she has little to show for her own savings. My father Pete was a welder by trade. Taught from his father and practiced throughout his entire life. My father was a hard worker. Yet with 5 boys, hardships with employment, and addictions to alchohol and gambling in his later years he has left my mother and our family with no monetary wealth. My parents did, however, have wealth in the 5 strong men they raised. This is where we pick up where they left.

These recent tragedies have left my mother, brothers, and I concernd about her future and the future of our family. With no savings and too few of years working for the school district, my mother is left with two options for her retirement. One is to live with her boys and the other is some government funded retirement home. My brothers and I would never let the second of the two happen.

I (Lori's son Jacob) come to you all with a vision. A vision not of tragedy, but of opportunity. Opportunity for my mother to live her future days with a sense of security, support, and peace. For the last few years I have been saving my earnings from my youth. Always wanting to acquire land for myself and for my future. With this recent vision and the tragic circumstances, I have realized that I have actually been saving for a property for my mother and the Van Ginkels to call home. Not long after this vision the property was found, in a great community near Santa Cruz Ca. After talking with the current land owner, he is enthusiastic and supportive of my mother living here and us buying the property. With all of these actions occurring, I truly believe this is what I have been saving for, but I cannot do this on my own.

This is where I come to you all, The Van Ginkel Community, with a humble heart asking for your support and help. For the next year my mother and I will be fundraising and saving money to acquire this property so that she will have security for her future and a place to call home. Your donations will go to help acquire this land and to help our family prepare it over the next 5-7 years  so that my mother may retire there. I am humbled to ask such a thing from a community that has their own struggles and circumstnces in life. Thank you! My mother's favorite movie is "It's a Wonderful Life," a movie where a community comes together to lift up someone who has influence and helped the community his whole life yet struggled financially.  I truly believe that if we all come together our many hands can make light work. Thank you for your donations and contributions to my mother and the Van Ginkel family.
With my deepest sincerity and gratitude,
