A Special Van for Our Special Addie

Donation protected
Addie was born at 36 weeks with a chromosomal abnormality, sacroccygeal teratoma, hydrocephalus, and was admitted to the NICU in order to have surgery ASAP on it. She spent 6 months in the NICU and had multiple surgeries- one on her heart at 8 days old, surgery to remove her teratoma at 2 weeks old, g-button surgery, a trachetomy, and a bilateral craniotomy for a subdural hematoma. After her craniotomy, Addie also developed epilepsy.

Addie came home after 6 months in the NICU for 6 days. Upon that time we noticed she was very irritable and turning blue whenever she would cry. We landed back into the hospital PICU for 4 more months. After 10 months in the hospital, Addie came home.

Addie has surpassed many obstacles thanks to many therapies a week and schooling done at home. She also plays soccer and cheerleading with a special needs organization! She is really thriving despite being on a ventilator with a trach and having epilepsy.

However, now that Addie is growing, our need for a larger vehicle is more necessary. Addie has a large medical stroller, ventilator, oxygen tanks, pulse oximeter, and more. Someone always has to sit in the back seat with Addie due to having a trach because she could literally die if her trach became dislodged or her circuit came off of her trach and we weren't able to stop the car in time to help. She also requires suctioning throughout the day as it can end up clogging her trach and make her unable to breathe as well.

In addition to caring for her trach constantly, Addie's epilepsy has recently gotten worse. She was recently admitted to the hospital after having over 100 seizures in a day. They still are not under control and it's imperative that someone sits in the back with her to help her come out of seizures and make sure she is ok when she has them, especially if they're grand mal. Currently, we have a midsize car, and with two car seats, it’s impossible for someone to sit in the middle because of her equipment. Not only that, but her doctors are located in another town, so it's not like she would be in the backseat for a few minutes.

We need this van to help Addie have enough space to take all of her equipment with us and have someone in the back seat with her and baby brother. This would also be helpful for us if we need to travel (as we are having talks about taking her to see another specialist for her epilepsy in Dallas which is 2 hours away.)

Please consider donating to help us get a new special van for Addie and all of her special needs. It would be a huge blessing for our family and we would be so grateful to have a vehicle that fit all of our family needs. We would love to have a new van for our family come end of June.
