Vanessa’s Leukemia Fund Raiser

It breaks my heart as I type these words. I’m sitting here alone thinking about how much my family’s life has changed in the past week. Exactly a week ago today I was with my sister when my mom called us frantically crying. As soon as I heard my mom crying I knew it wasn’t good, when she was finally able to catch her break and told us.. She said our cousin had just been diagnosed Leukemia. My entire world shifted, I looked at my sister with my hands over my head and all I said was “That’s cancer”. I couldn’t believe it. We rushed back to my moms house, as soon as I walked in I felt the sadness in our home everything was quiet. I walked back to find my mom and saw her on her knees crying. I couldn’t bare it. I broke down and cried with her. We immediately left to the hospital to see my cousin. I walked into her room and I felt and saw the sadness in everyone’s eyes. She was just here for spring break from college how could this be happening? I tried my hardest to keep it together, not for myself but for my family. That night she was transported to San Diego until further notice. Tuesday night I spoke to my cousin and told me she had been given a final diagnoses, It was AML Leukemia. And asked if I would step in for her medical conference where her treatment would be explained. The next day I waited anxiously all morning to finally leave to see her and even more anxious to hear what doctors had to say. I wrote down a million questions on my note book, I felt like I had earths entire weight in my shoulders. I couldn’t concentrate if my life depended on it. After finally meeting with her team of doctors my family and I have high hopes that she will over come this obstacle. We hope to have a full recovery within 6-7 months My family and I ask if anyone is able to donate to cover her family’s expenses. This is a process that is going to take time and unfortunately not many of us are ever financially ready for something like this. I understand we are adults with responsibilities, if you are not able to donate I ask for you to keep my cousin in your prayers. We really need it during this difficult time. There is no money goal we are hoping to reach, we are hoping to give her family financial help for their expenses in the next months coming, Thank you.
