Vanessa's Bone Marrow Transplant

Donation protected
****UPDATE****
Tuesday, May 22, 2018, Vanessa Imani Gordon's battle with Leukemia came to an end.  She transitioned to her place besides God and loving family members who have preceded her to glory.

Services for Vanessa will be held at First Baptist Church South Hill, 3633 Galberry Rd, Chesapeake, VA 23323.

Tuesday, May 29th will be a wake with services proceeding Wednesday, May 30th.  More information will follow.

Vanessa fought through her fears, disbelief and ails with unwavering faith and determination.  She, I and her friends and family truly appreciate all the the love and support she received since her diagnosis.

She wanted all who heard her plight to consider doing something so unselfish as giving of ourselves to those suffering and in need.

****UPDATE****

Great News!!! A bone marrow donor match has been found and all the processes will soon be in the works. To God be the Glory.

Vanessa has one more chemo treatment and additional testing before she begins the Bone Marrow Transplant and recovery.

**DONATIONS ARE VERY MUCH NEEDED. **
No amount is too small.

Now Vanessa needs to arrange for lodging and services for when she is released from the hospital. Recovery requires her to stay in North Carolina.

If you are considering being a BM donor for others you can go to BeTheMatch.org and start there.

We want to say Thank You to everyone for the love, prayers and financial support given to Vanessa's cause. We love and appreciate you.

In 2015, Vanessa Imani Gordon was diagnosed
with CML, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia. Early on the disease appeared to be manageable, however by 2017 the disease started to become more aggressive requiring multiple blood transfusions and serveral changes to the chemotherapy and other treatments being used.

Sadly, the disease has progressed to an acute status requiring Vanessa to seek treatment at Duke Cancer Center, 195 miles away from her home, where a Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT) is her best and only chance for survival.

Vanessa is currently on the Bone Marrow Transplant list and just learned of three possible matches. This procedure can begin any day once a match is found. Along with the match, successful treatment requires her to stay in the Durham area for three months in specific housing with the assistance of an aide.

All of the expenses up until now and those which are expected have overwhelmed Vanessa and her family to the point where assistance is needed. Having to ask for help is a hard place for Vanessa to be, however we are hoping that the kindness and genrosity of the people who read this will help Vanessa to afford care and enable her to fully focus on overcoming Leukemia.

On behalf of Vanessa, I am asking any and everyone to please do whatever you can to support my cousin. No amount is too small.

Vanessa is a reading specialist for children with special needs. As an educator for 23 years, she has made helping others her life. She is looking forward to beating cancer so that she can return to her passion of helping children.

Thank you in advance and we will keep everyone updated with her progress.
