Val's medical bills & cont. care

As most of you are aware by now my mom, Val Levercom, was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic ovarian cancer in January 2015. Since that time she has undergone radiation to her brain to treat multiple tumors and over 2 1/2 years worth of chemotherapy. Along with that came more PT scans, MRIs, bloodwork, x-rays, EKGs, and specialists than we can count. Then just before the 4th of July she wasn't feeling well, wasn't eating and was very weak. My grandma made the decision that it was time to go to the ER to figure out what was wrong. Well, they of course ran a dozen or more tests and diagnosed her with pneumonia and checked her into the hospital for treatment. She was treated with multiple IV medications, fluids, drugs to manage pain, had physical and occupational therapy, nebulizer treatments, daily labwork, and more x-rays. It took almost 2 weeks to get her to a point where she was medically stable but then we ran into the problem of her not being physically stable and they couldn't keep her in the hospital anymore. After talking about it for a while we all decided it would be best to get mom into a skilled nursing facility for continued rehab with the hope that she would be able to get strong enough to go home quickly. As she started rehab it became clear that she was not getting better and I have come to the difficult decision to put mom into hospice care so that she can be kept comfortable for her remaining days.

As you can imagine with all of this going on the medical bills are beginning to pile up and despite her best efforts to make monthly payments there are still large amounts left unpaid. The bills for her hospital stay have not come in yet but they will be substantial and hospice is not covered by her insurance. We are trying to find financial help but most of the apications take more time than she will have.

My mom has given of herself her entire life. Anyone that knows her knows that she would give you the last $1 she had if she thought it would help you more than her. She is one of the strongest women I have ever met. I can't say there is anyone else I know that could have taken the beating she has taken over the last 2 1/2 years  and kept fighting like she has. She doesn't ask for help easily so I am doing it for her. If there is anything at all that you can spare to help support her during a time that she needs it the most it would be so appreciated by our entire family.

Thank you to everyone for all your continued love, support and prayers.
